Do they work??
My nails break w/o acrylic but I HATE ACRYLIC!! I want my nails natural. Not neccessarily long but strong enough to not break. Do nail hardeners work? Does anyone use it to maintain your natural nails??

Not only does it makes nails hard and strong, but also white. And if you buff 'em, you can live w/o nail polish:

Thanks, I just picked up a cheap hardener, but I am definitely going to try this one. I love that it turns the nail tips white, mine are looking rough and kinda off white. Can't wait to try it!

Thanks, Nonie. Imma try it cuz my nails are looking terrible.
OP, you and I are in the same boat. I want to wear my natural nails again. I took my solar nails off about 3 wks ago but my nails are still in pretty bad shape. I have worn artififcial nails for many years but Im tired of them now. I've tried all sorts of nail hardeners including OPI's Nail Envy which is supposed to be really good at strengthening nails. Well, its not doing much and I paid $15 for the darn bottle!! I suspect it'll take about 3 months or so to grow out the damage inflicted by the nails.

Thanks Nonie! I'll have to try this. I would like to grow my nails, but they always split in the middle for some reason. Does anyone know of any nail tutorials for growing your nails...shaping/filing, self manicures, painting techniques, etc.?

After wearing acrylic for years, I finally took them off. My nails were very weak, brittle and damaged. Someone told me about Nailtique and let me tell you it made the world of difference as long as you follow the instructions. It got my nails back to snuff.

Nonie thanks for the tip about Claws. I will check that out.
To OP: I also recommend Nailtiques. I have used formula 2 for years. My nails grow nicely but they tend to split and peel after they reach a certain length. For me this happens more during the winter months. You are "suppose" graduate to forumla 1 but I like 2 better so that's what I continue to use. I keep a lil bottle in my purse to use when I get prof mani's. They also have a formula for nails weakened by artifical nails:

I did not think anyone was having this problem but me.....
My thumbnail has split since age 13 - I am 40.... I have been covering, etc - for so long......
I noticed that when I started biosil - some things changed - but I had other bad side effects so I had to let it go.
It might work for you! I am taking Vitamin b - and My nails are gorwing like crazy - I may start the biosil again - just dilute it.

I do take a multi, biotin 5 mg, MSM, and fish oil and my nails actually grow very well and are not particularly weak or thin, but I can't retain any length because they split right in the middle and I just can't figure out why. I go to a hematologist and have my blood composition checked regularly (previous severe anemia) and everything has been great for well over a year, so I don't know any physical reason why this happens. Maybe it's something I'm doing...like Nonie suggested not using nails as tools, well I do this often. I rarely, if ever, use polish so maybe I need some external protection as well. I do file and I'm probably doing that wrong and causing the splits that way too. That's why I asked about a tutorial. Nonie's is really good.

WOW! Your nails look :lick:!!!!
Where can I purchase Claws?
ETA: I just read all of the comments and I appreciate all of the suggestions. It doesn't pay for me to get acrylics/false nails....I just got them on Thursday and I'm already popping them off (and tearing my nails in the process =(... ). Theres got to be a better way!!
Noni, your tutorial is great. I'm copying and saving it as a reference. Thanks again ladies.

I wasn't sure if you got the answer on where to find CLAWS so excuse the redundancy if you did: If you click on the name in my post it takes you directly to the page on the Puritan's Pride website where you can order it from. They usually have a BOGO sale going on so knock yourself out.
For those of you that like polish (I do but find that I need to redo it every time it chips or risk chipped nails too and it's just too time consuming for me right now while I'm in my lazy mode), I found wearing a French/American/Nonie Manicure helped me be more aware of my nails and thus not knock them about. I think the white tips just stood out and reminded me of my goal so I handled my nails like we do our hair. On that page with the tutorial (Page 6, I believe) is a photo of how you can fake it till you make it and thus become used to seeing your nails with white tips and how to maintain that. HTH

I agree! My aunt use this on her nails and toes and they grew so long and strong that she stopped using it. I also referred them to my friend and she loves it. Instead of getting the acrylic she jus gets a french manicure and they look jus as strong and as thick as my tips.
Biosil has helped my nails tremendously! They no longer break and they are very strong. They do not seem to be growing any faster - but when they do grow the growth remains.
