Hi y'all
I am trying to lose some weight once and for all and just stop this yo-yoing that I do...lose, gain, lose, gain:wallbash: I know it's bad for my health but I tend to cut out foods I love to lose weight and then of course I start to lose and then I go back to that food I cut out.
So in an effort to find healthier ways to eat, I want to reduce the high GI foods that I eat. I have found shirataki noodles to replace traditional white pasta, subbed sweet potatoes for white ones, found low-cal whole wheat bread that I love but what can I sub for white rice? I LOVE jasmine rice, can eat bowls and bowls of it with just a touch of butter. I am West Indian so going without rice is a no-no for me :nono:
I can eat brown rice but I find that even though is has slightly more fiber, it has almost as many calories as white rice. Is there a low/lower cal option to rice that YOU like?

I like quinoa. It has a lot of protein and is a quick cook.

Sweettrini, I'm 50% Nutrisystem which is low glycemic; rice is included in some meals..it's the amount of rice which makes the difference and you stated you eat a lot of it...make a big effort to eat less, slower..use chopsticks.

Basmati/Jasmine rice are low Glycemic Index! They are deelish! Fragrant and aromatic, and (at least to me) can be eaten plain as a side to good veggies and meat.
Try some :)

Brown rice is really healthy and good for you. Just eat a little less, that's all...
I always say: look at people in Asia - rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner and slimmer than any other on the planet! :lachen:
It's all in the portion size :yep:

So are you saying that white rice and jasmine rice are different? Really? All this time I thought that they were the same and therefore were both high GI foods. I thought jasmine rice was just white rice with some kind of aromatic oils/seasoning added to it. Amara 11 - thanks so much!! So I can keep eating jasmine rice (and brown rice too Flower Hair - I know it's good for me!!:lachen:) just make I sure I eat smaller portions!! That is hard because I know a serving is like the size of your fist. Girls I can eat like 3 fistfuls in one go. Actually sometimes that is what I have for dinner - just some plain rice in a bowl! LOVE it!!

Try Converted/Parboiled Rice. It's tastes exactly like white rice but the GI is super low.:yep:
Get the Uncle Ben's Brand. It's GI is 38 cooked.

Bulgar - They sell it @ Kroger, Whole Foods and some Trader Joe's. This is my alternative to rice. I love rice too but for me, it's too carby.

I'm sorry I used basmati/jasmine rice interchangeably, and they're not the same.... either way basmati is medium/low GI.
