I'm going to opening night of the opera. I know long gone are the days of full evening wear to the opera (unless it's the opening of the opera season) so I'm not quite sure how dressy to go. I probably can't go wrong with the LBD, but any ideas? How dressy would you go?

Probably a nice black dress. I'm a sucker for dark colors for evening wear. I haven't been to the Opera since I saw Kathleen Battle a long time ago.

Thanks Jamerican. That will probably be what I end up wearing anyway.

Oooo....thanks for starting this thread, I will be going to the Opera on the 14th of March and I have no idea what to wear. A black dress sounds good :yep:

Girl go all out glam if you feel like it. If not keep it simple with black, diamonds and a standout clutch.

Oh yeah good acessories are a must! I use to have a sparkly clutch...Wonder what I did with it?

I've been doing some research. I was told to expect everything from jeans  to furs and gowns. I may not go all out with a full length dress this time, but maybe the next time I will. We'll see. I'm enjoying the thought of really dressing up. :drunk:

Are you talking about a ball gown skirt like Carolina Herrera makes? That's the "look" I was going for in my mind. (Ball gown skirt and white button down shirt.) But, of course, I don't know where to start looking for that. That's why you should always have something ready in your closet because you can never find what you want when you want it! :wallbash:

This is what I decided on:

-crisp starched white shirt with 3/4 sleeves
-calf-length taffeta skirt possibly with crinoline underskirt for added poof and drama (I have one in a deep red and black--haven't decided which one to wear)
-triple strand pearls
-black opera length gloves
-black evening bag and shoes
-fur capelet or stole

I think it will be good for evening, but not super formal. I shouldn't feel out of place either way (ie under or over dressed). It's good to have an evening gown ready to go because you never know where you will go. I'm going to probably go shopping for one in the near future.

The pic I attached of Carolina Herrera was my inspiration. :yep:

I'm thinking Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman". I loved that dress she had on.
