I bought an excellent book called FIT FOR LIFE and started learning more about incorporating more fruits in place of sweets. I love watermelon and strawberry, banana and cherry smoothies. I'm not that good with salads yet because everytime I would eat them, they would make my stomach cramp. I have to get used to them.

Right here! Before I got into competing I was the biggest junk eater. What changed me was my ex who was a competitiove bodybuilder, gave me a membership to the gym. I like working out aand started to learn about nutrition. I found out that I would never have the 6 pack I wanted if I kept thowing down on 2 foot hoagies and beer.

Well, I'll tell ya, some of that rabbit food is pretty tasty. After eating it for a few days, all that sweet stuff and assorted junk food will actually make you sick.
Try having a good meal at least once a day. It's much more satisfying to the appetite than you'd expect!

Thanks all for the advice. I used to eat a lot of fruit. For a second in college I took a World Religions course and I swore up and down that I wanted to be a Jain so I became a fruititarian. I found a worm in my apple once, (I didn't think that really happened!!!) so that turned me off. After that it was downhill.
Carrie I actually do have a six pack or at least a little four pack. I work out every morning. I do get tired easily because of my poor diet which bothers me. Perhaps it is because I don't have a beer belly that it took me a while to realize how awful my diet was.
Rabbit food??? Do you mean rabbit MEAT or the food that rabbits eat? In which case, how the heck did you start eating rabbit food?

Fit for Life by Harvey Diamond: That's my rulebook too, I call it my Garden of Eden diet (because I'm a Christian, and I like to imagine what Adam and Eve would eat!).
But I love the book and I think it's right on; and I am glad that he talks about starting at your own pace and getting better at it as you go along, after all eating right is a process when you prefer to eat wrong! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Honey Rockette, it was a joke. "Rabbit food" is vegetables.
What's a Jain???

HA! So you can see how long it has been since I actually had "rabbit food". I don't even know what the heck it is! LMAO! Jainism is a religion based in the East. They don't believe in hurting anything that is alive so they only eat fruit.
Hairfanatic,
I had the same problem--eating salads and them cramping so badly it wasn't worth it. The culprit for me--Iceberg lettuce. I switched to Romaine and no problem. I now eat any kind of lettuce/greens except Iceberg and have not had any problems. Good luck.

Someone told me that iceberg lettuce doesn't digest well. I just don't like the taste. I stick to romaine or spinach for salads.

HoneyRockette,
I am trying to eat healthier as well. I have a terrible sweet tooth. I have found that eating lots of fruits helps curve my addiction. I ate sweet fruts like Bananas and Mangos initially. Now I can eat a variety of fruits. Refine Sugar can be awful for your body and skin. Stay away from sodas and juice. I also stopped going to fast food restaurants. Recently I went to McDonalds' and the food tasted nasty to me. I use to eat French Fries all the time and now I no longer crave them. Try to stay away from white bread, white sugar and white pasta.

Fruits don't really fill me up though. I could eat a whole can of peaches, a bunch of bananas, half a pineapple and a pound of strawberries in one sitting and I'll still be hungry. That's when I reach for the cookies. A half a box of cookies (in other words 500 calories and a pound of sugar) later I am no longer hungry. Otherwise I would still be a fruititarian.

I do think fruits are appetisers with the exception of bananas. Try taking a glass of water and a slice of bread after eating fruits. Or have lettuce (don't know if you call it that in america) and a glass of water if you're into the low carb thing.
I am a chocolate person and I haven't had any for almost two weeks, fruits do work.

Hi Gina,
You know what helped me with the cramping? I started juicing my vegetables in my Juiceman Jr. I was still getting the benefits of vegetables but without the cramping.

TC,
Do you have the video tape of FIT FOR LIFE? It's wonderful and very encouraging. They show you how to cook meal plans for 14 days. Yummy!
