Ok, aftering reading online about raw eating, I picked up the 'Raw Food Detox" Diet book by Natalia Rose.

First and foremost, she describes that food should be eaten in groupings--

1. Starches
2. Fleshes
3.Nuts/Seeds/Dried Fruits
4.Fresh Fruits.

Notice I didn't list vegetables or processed foods yet? There's a reason for that.

The first 2 categories can be mixed with RAW and COOKD vegetables.
The first 3 categories can be mixed with amount of RAW vegetables.
Fresh fruit can be eaten with RAW vegetables--but is best eaten alone.
According to Natalia, you should NEVER mix these four categories---how hard is that? That means no sandwiches, no traditional pizzas(not even vegetarian)...
The reason she reccommends keeping these 4 categories seperate and emphasizes eating fruit alone is because of the enzymes that are released when digesting food. For example the enzyme to digest meat, pepsin is neutralized by the enzymes that breaks down starch--thus the digestive processes is slowed down, creating waste in the body.

Fruit shouldn't be after a cooked meal--it causes fermentation.
Wait 3-4 hours before switching food groups.
It is better to eat various foods in the same grouping(salmon and steak vs steak and potatoes)
Vegetables are pretty much the wildcard...these foods can be eaten with all four categories.

Nut butters SHOULDN"T be eaten with starch--so no peanut butter sandwiches; flip to peanut butter/celery or peanut butter/apple combos

Dark chocolate is a good dessert option with any of the categories.

Note*These aren't my opinions but come straight from the author's text. As I find out more interesting info, I will post summaries. HTHSO.

Is this really a raw diet or is RAW an acronym?

Eating raw means no cooked foods, unless this plan is less than 100% raw (75% raw).

I read so many of the raw food books that I may be mixing it up but I think this is the book where she describes how to transition into a full raw diet.

The book you are refering too is a good book when one is considering transitioning from eating cooked food to raw foods. BUT...as Radiant health stated...Eating a raw diet EXCLUDES any cooked foods.

No, it isn't an acronym it is the name. The author recommends, based upon your health and currenting eating habits that becoming a raw foodist start gradually due to the influx of living enzymes and detoxification on the body.

I listed the groups, because it seems that she recommends getting into the habit of seperating your foods based upon a category prior to eating to acclimate the body to eating for better digestion and more effective elimination.

Raw foodists don't use heat over 118F to cook their meals(according to the author).

That is very interesting. I would never have thought.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to incorporate more living foods into my diet so this is very helpful.
