Will somebody please tell me how to overcome an addiction to sugar and other processed foods.
Should I try to do it cold turkey, take some sort of supplement, WHAT!!!
I read that CLA was supposed to be good.
This is getting too serious.

I think cold turkey would be the best way to go. Otherwise you would just be substituting one addicion for another possibly. Good luck!

What do you do when you want something sweet or gooey and soft like mashed potatos-n-gravy, hot-buttered corn, or sweet potato pie.
forgot to add, I'm a carb addict too!:perplexed

What I found out that works best for me, is not to bring any of those kinds of foods into my home. When I go grocery shopping I buy a lot of fruits to help curve my sugar attacks. I just started buying Jell-O Fat-Free 100 calorie pudding. It is the vanilla and chocolate. It is sooo good. The first time I brought it, I had three of the little cups at one time:grin:. I haven’t had any candy in over three weeks and I’m doing well. I don’t even go to the snack machine at work and get anything. I think once your body gets used to you not having it on a regular you don’t miss it. I use to buy a bag of M&Ms everyday at work for my afternoon snack. I don’t even have the taste for them any more. Hope this helps, and good luck. :drunk:

Fruit, Fruit, and more Fruit
High Fiber snacks
Mash sweet potatoes instead of white ones
Whole wheat bread instead of white bread
Make the transition from white to brown (White Sugar to Raw Sugar...White bread to Whole wheat bread)
Drink a lot of water
Kashi cereal is great
Bran muffins are also great
I use stevia, honey, raw sugar, and agave nectar instead of sugar.

Search online for healthy substitutes. I do a "crustless sweet potato pie" and it is yummy :)
With the right spices you can really hook it up ;)

I think the best thing to do is to start with a colon cleanse. That will rid your body of toxins, possible caked up fecal matter, parasites, et cetera.
I know how you feel but I really do believe that the foods you are addicted to have certain "ingredients" that make people crave them. Have you ever read the Natural Cures book by Kevin Troudeau? I think it is a great book.
Good luck on your new journey!

I realized that I was a carbohydrate addict a few years ago and I bought a book called The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. It's less of a diet than a life plan. I eat three meals a day where only one of them contains carbs, usually dinner, and I balance that meal with as much protein and veggies as I can get down in one hour. Because this inhibits the release of insulin throughout the day, I don't have the fatigue and mental fog and cravings that I used to have. When I slipped and had some carbs, say some candy on somebody's desk or a bag of chips, I would eat some cheese or a hard boiled egg to help my body deal with the insulin that it would inevitably release. I've been able to lose 40 pounds over the last year and keep it off. I have more energy and I don't have as much pain as i did before (I have fibromyalgia).
There is another version where you can snack all day on no carb foods and then balance your reward meal by eating a salad and dividing your plate into thirds with protein, veggie and carb. That's too hard for me to snack throughout the day. I overeat that way. Research the plan online. There is a forum on yahoo that absolutely helped save my life.
The first step for me was to combine protein with whatever carb I ate and it became easier for me to choose not to eat it whenever I wanted to - only at dinner and within one hour of beginning to eat. The book is awesome, the lifestyle is simple, and there is a lot of support out there.
Good luck.
PS Don't whup your a$$ about it. That's the true first step.

What has really helped me is evaluating whatever I put into my mouth. Before I eat anything outside of what I'm supposed to eat, I ask myself how is this going to impact my body or how is this beneficial to my body? That works really well for me. I've been by passing chocolate, cakes and other non foods (foods which have no real nutritional value and will negate all my hard work and exercise) like the plague. Even on my anything goes days, I don't eat much junk at all if any. Also make sure that when you by pass the non-foods, have some real food handy like fruit or vegetables.

Actually - I found ACV to be really helpful. For some reason it just cut my cravings for sweets almost immediately. I also went on a low-carb diet, and seeing the results made me determined to succeed. There's a thread about using ACV for weight loss - I sometimes mix it in very low strength with water and just sip that throughout the day as opposed to doing the shot. That and drinking lots and lots of water made a huge difference.

Lowcarb diets REALLY help with sugar addiction and weight loss.
Days 1-3 should be HIGH in fat to kick your body into ketosis and the crvings WILL go away. This is what I always do if I gain a few pounds.
Days 1-3.....I eat taco meat with cheese, lettuce and sour cream for lunch and dinner.Breakfast is bacon and eggs or tuna salad.
snacks (if needed) macadamia nuts or peanut butter mixed W cream cheese.
Drink PLENTY of water and get the junk food OUT of your house.
If you go out to eat order a burger without the bun or steak and salad.
After the first week you should not have any desire for sweets.
Continue to eat lean meats,,Low glcemic fruits and veggies and whole wheat carbs(if any)....I don't believe in processed carbs except steel cut oatmeal and Flax but to each his own........
O.K its bedtime let me send you a Pm cuzz I could go on 4 ever.......
anywayz..I know a few people who lost 100 pounds in 5-8 months eating Low carb..Its the truth you just gotta learn how to cook.....

I totally agree with this post. I am the biggest sweets and carb junkie and eating foods with a low glycemic index was the key to help me lose about 40 lbs in a matter of months.
I ate eggs and bacon for breakfast and usually had a spinach salad and grilled chicken for lunch. Dinner was protein and vegetable. I did not miss the sweets. Fruit or sugar free jello was good enough:yep:. I only exercised for about 30 mins. 3 days per week (treadmill or elliptical).
Trust me, if I could give up the sweets then ANYone can! Unfortunately, i feel way off the wagon during the holidays:lick: but only gained back about 5lbs.
You can do it girl!
