If so, PLEASE share any tips you have. I've lost a total of about 75 lbs over the last several years, and want to lose maybe 10-15 more. I'm happy with the size of my upper body (although I wish my breast were bigger:look:), but that always seem to be where I lose the most weight. I'd hate to keep exercising just to lose more weight in my upper body...I really need to lose weight and tone my lower body. I do cardio about 5 days per week (Turbo Jam, The Firm, WATP, etc), and I strength train using The Firm w/Fanny Lifter about 2-3 days per week. I've also recently started doing pilates. As far as my diet, I try to watch my calorie intake...I eat fruits/veggies and foods high in fiber. I also drink 2-3 liters of water per day. With all that being said, I'd love any advice anyone can give about slimming/toning hips & thighs.

I don't appear to be what people traditionally consider hippy. However, my hips and thighs carry a good deal of my weight (especially my thighs). I have managed to lose inches in my hips and thighs over the last year. However, there is no tried and true way to do this. You have a very good routine and nutrition plan to begin with. My suggestion would be to start experimenting with different types of lower body exercises (both cardio and strength) w/ varying weights. Some people find success by lifting very heavy for lower body. While this can make some people get very bulky, for others (like me) who have difficulty putting on huge amounts of muscle mass no matter how much they lift, it has the opposite effect. Heavy lifting burns more calories so that's probably why it works for some people. For others, light weights and high reps combined with tons of cardio does the trick. You might want to try distance running as well to slim your hips and thighs. However, it doesn't always work that way. Since I started running I stopped losing inches in my thighs. While they are more solid than they were before I started marathon training, they are definitely the same size. Try different methods and see what works for you, but it is definitely possible to get leaner even if you are prone to being hippy.

Thanks for this advice! To the bolded, Ive been using the same set of dumbbells for a while now, so I could probably benefit from using something a little heavier. Also, I do have a treadmill, but I find it to be so boring:yawn:. I will try to incorporate some running into my routine a couple days a week. Thanks again.

I HATE THE TREADMILL. You can always run outside. The scenery is great, the fresh air is invigorating, and with an MP3 player you have a soundtrack for your run. Give it a try. And yes I run outside in the winter when it's cold and snowy.

75 lbs, girl! WHOO! I'm trying to get there. I'm going to keep going with my fanny lifter. I'm getting some inch loss in that area so I know I'm on the right track!

First congratulation on the 75 pounds loss! Second I have been going back and forth with Nonie and she said Callanetics Hips & Thighs is the answer to reduce your hips. I have not started it yet but I hope to get a copy of the dvd some time this week.

I'd like to hear more on trimming your hips. I gained hips within the past 15 months and I don't care for the way it looks on me. I've been spinning since mid December and I am beginning to see my thighs slim down, but I still want to my normal hips back.

Well, since I am pear shaped I didn't think it was possible for me to lose weight in my legs/thighs but I was by
1. eating salads or just veggies for dinner, not eating anything heavy after 8pm
2. Walking, and dance (walking to work & back and walking my little heart out every where else because I hate the gym and doing bellydance, zumba)
3. Not overeating, cutting down on the sweets, and especially the CARBS!
I have a good BMI index so I figure that it would be near impossible for me to lose weight, however this really helped.
I've lost 8 pounds, but I've gain 2 more because I enjoy chocolate, eating late, and those delicious Firehouse subs loaded with carbs.
I'll get back to normal though in due time.

I'll post more later...getting ready for work. But to sum up. I am hippy, thunder thighish.
The thing that works for me is eat clean, eat clean, eat clean..... and repitition exercises vs heavy weights and cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio....
I'll expand upon these points a little later
Time for me to get on the treadmill right now, morning cardio on an empty stomach, except for Whey protein isolate for the aminos.....one of my tricks ;) Then I'm going to fix my salad for lunch.

I recommend Callanetics, hands down. I always rave about the leg program but the whole program has some exercise that target the hips and make a huge difference.
Check out these pics (http://www.callaneticsexercises.com/callanetics-articles/callanetics-before-and-after-pictures-results-of-callanetics/).
And looking at Callan's no-hip-self, it's kinda encouraging. (It's part of why I prefer to do only the leg workout because I didn't like her overall shape although I could kill for her legs.)

I am hippy. Even when I am at my thinnest, I have my hips.
I love them, but to keep them trim PILATES is the stuff.
Love how pilates keeps my hips and thighs trim and sleek.

Treadmills and running have not been good for me. It makes them bigger. Yes, toned but bigger.
I prefer a sleeker look and feel to my hips and thighs.

I am the opposite in loosing weight. I lose weight on my lower body faster than upper body. I haven't notice any recommendations on squats or lunges. I also like running up hills and jumping rope too.
Congrats on 70 lb weightloss.

Pilates should help lean out your lower body.

pilates pilates pilates and a little more pilates. It lengthens those muscles with in turn burns the fat which in turn shows off slimmer thighs

It is so fantastic to see that you have come such a long way, 75 pounds, that is amazing.
I am on the slim side but I have always wanted a dancer's body. You know, long lean legs, slim thighs and muscle tone to kill. BUT I hate cardio and weight lifting and in any case they don't lengthen the muscles. I am happy to say that I now have dancer's legs and what worked for me was
1. Body Sculpting Basics by The Firm -very old, but hands down the best exercise DVD out there. You can skip the first part and focus on the floor exercises and your hips and thighs will thank you. It chiseled my legs.
2. Pilates - I only have Windsor pilates but there are many others
3. callanetics - I use the 10 in 10 workout and my body loves it .
How I did it.
I used Body Sculpting Basics only at first. That did the job. Since I have already lengthened and gotten inches of my thighs and hips with Body Sculpting basics, I rarely do it now (I lose weight if I do it regularly). I use callanetics, and pilates for maintaining the results and they do a great job.
Good luck and keep going until you get the body you are dreaming of.

Congratulations for your weight loss! I got my Callanetics (10 in 10) DVD today. I'm quite 'hippy' too and hoping to trim hips and shape thighs. I started a post for suggestions, Callanetics was mentioned by several members. I will be posting results in a couple of months, maybe you should give it a try too.
