People say it works, but it seems a little drastic

12 days on - 2 days off

Breakfast
1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened)
2 Eggs (any style)
2 Slices Bacon

Lunch
1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened)
Meat (any style, any amount)
Salad (any kind of dressing)

Dinner
1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened)
Meat (any style, any amount) (fish may be substituted for meat)
Vegetables (any green, yellow, or red vegetables cooked in butter or any seasoning)

Bed Time Snack
1 glass tomato juice or 1 glass Skim milk

Vegetables Allowed
Red onions, green onions, bell peppers, radishes, cucumbers, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, peas.

Vegetables to Avoid
White onions, potatoes, celery.

Instructions

At any meal you may eat until you are full - until you can't eat any more.
Don't eliminate anything from the diet, especially don't skip bacon at breakfast or omit salads. It is the combination of foods that burn fat.
The grapefruit is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process.
Cut down on caffeine - it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process. Try to limit to 1 cup per meal at mealtime.
Don't eat between meals. If you eat the combination of food suggested you will not be hungry.
Note that the diet completely eliminates sugar and starches, which are lipids and form fat. Fat doesn't form fat; it helps burn it. You can fry food in butter and use butter generously on vegetables.
Do not eat desserts, bread, and white vegetables or sweet potatoes. You may double or triple helpings of meat, salad, or vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed. The more you eat of the proper combination of food, the more you lose.

Looks fine to me

Vegetables - Check
Protein - Check
Fruit - Check

It seems low carb, but healthy. The only concern would be if you incorporate starch too quickly you could gain the weight back easily and quickly.

ironically, one can be eating all healthy foods but surviving on little calories which will ultimately cancel out the effects of their food. anyway, if you are to have each three foods for meals then the calories may be enough. however, it seems extremely mundane. in addition to this, at 12 days of extremely low carbs you'll probably be lacking in a lot of energy, tired and irritable. it would probably not be a wise idea to work out during this. carbs are necessary to help the brain function properly and the amount you're receiving is very low and for too long. personally, i think it teaches one very little about creating healthy eating habits as it's extremely restrictive. what's more if this results in fast weight loss, there is a big chance a lot of that will come from muscle, which will result in a slower metabolism. then you may well gain the weight back over time. ultimately, when you try to lose weight again it will be much harder due to the decreased metabolism. i'm not too sure why people do things such as this when there are less torturous ways to lose weight anyway.

btw, this is the mayo clinic diet. i use the site where the following link was from to do research on diets from time to time and consider it a reputable and unbiased source of information. they promote healthy weight loss. it is the sister site of www.diet-blog.com (http://www.diet-blog.com)

It doesn't sound sustainable in the long run. Plus it cuts out key nutrient groups. Starches and whole grains are a necessary part of a balanced diet. Tocktick is right in everything she said. You might want to try something more balanced for permanent weight loss.

thanks for the links, I checked them out and the one I posted is the unofficial mayo clinic diet, the clinic has nothing to do with it they stated, and I found a sample of the real mayo clinic diet and the food pyramid. I thought is was a little extreme to be healthy and I can see how the weight would just come back.

This diet works!! Like for real! I posted a thread about this sometime last year, it's called the grapefruit diet. I gained 40lbs my freshman year of college and needed to lose weight fast for the summer, so I started this diet and it worked wonders.

The only downfall IMO to this diet, is the no bread. I love bread so it was hard not to eat carbs, also no desserts, etc. You have to stick to the diet exactly and no skipping meals. A relative of mine did this for wedding because I had such great results, but she developed boils on her pubic area because of the eggs.

good luck dieting, just remember with any crash diet once you come off YOU WILL gain some of the weight back if you dont adapt a healthy diet.
