Hi all!
Excuse the lengthy post!
I know there's another thread about oil-pulling but I wanted a thread focused on benefits/changes people have exprienced with oil-pulling.
I personally have seen a tremendous improvement in my teeth and gums. Last August, I went to the dentist for the first time in over 5 years (I know, shame on me :nono::nono::nono:). I was really saddened to find out that, despite my rigorous brushing and flossing, I had early stage periodontal disease. My gums were an absolute mess...bleeding everywhere and they had started receding! :nono::nono::nono: She gave me some antibiotics and a fluoride rinse and sent me home. On my next visit, my gums weren't any better and she gave me some more antibiotics and sent me home.
I really didn't want to come back on my third visit with the same problem so I started oil pulling for twenty minutes twice a day using cold pressed sesame seed oil back in April. In the first few weeks my teeth seemed to get a shade or two whiter so I kept on pulling hoping for the best. My morning breath was also a lot fresher (heeheehee).
From Bad to Worse...
In June, my gums were still bleeding! The bleeding actually started to get worse! When I brushed my teeth, the gums surrounding nearly every tooth would start bleeding and I started to get sensitive sore spots throughout my gums! I really was tempted to quit, but I decided to stick it through and hope that this was just my gums "purging" themselves.
In September, I had my 3-month dentist appointment scheduled but I decided not to go to give my gums a chance to heal a bit more and to allow the oil-pulling to do its thing. I started adding a few drops of Oil of Oregano to my sesame oil each day hoping the bleeding and the sores would stop...
From Worse to Excellent!
Ok, so I continued the oil-pulling through September and October but I had started to slack off in November. By this time, the bleeding had stopped when I brushed and was really minimal when I flossed. So I decided to schedule my dentist appointment to see if she would notice any improvements.
Well, when the dentist started poking me with that annoying needle:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:, she was very impressed at how my gums responded! She said there was much MUCH less bleeding than my last 2 visits and when she took my x-rays, my gums had stopped receded and appeared to be filling in again!:grin::grin: I was super excited! In her words, "I have to say your tissue is in great condition!":grin::grin: (Oh yea baby!) She called another dentist in to check me out and she was also impressed. There was a vast improvement and I owe most of it to oil-pulling.
I say most because I think the dental cleanings and the antibiotics helped me ward off infection, but I don't think they helped my gums heal. I'm not writing this to say stop going to the dentist. If anything, I'm saying GO! Make sure you do your routine cleanings at least twice a year to avoid this mess. However, oil-pulling is a very effective way to comabt ailing teeth and gums.
Alright ladies, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :yep::yep::yep: Thanks for taking the time to read!

Wow that is great. I was wondering if oil pulling would help with receding gums. That is one more reason to keep doing it!!! Q

Congrats! :flowers: I know just how you feel. My hygienist was also
impressed which is not easy to do. :nono:I used to have to get a deep
scaling once every 3 months even tho I brush like a mad woman. My last
appointment she said come back in 6 months and I didn't need a deep
scaling.
I've already posted my results to death. I'm sure people are tired of seeing
the same pics and hearing the same story, but I did think of something
new.
My teeth move faster. I had braces for 3 years. The dentist said it should
only have taken 1.5 years to move my teeth (and he only billed me for
that amount of time so I know he wasn't lying). I wear a retainer now and
I usually don't wear it everyday. When I do get around to it, it takes days
before the retainer isn't so tight. Not anymore! I finally get what he was
saying. Healthy gums allow the teeth more freedom to move. I can put my
retainer in at night and it's loose in the morning.

LOL! Thanks! How do I find where you posted your old results? I'd love to read them! Are they in that long oil-pulling thread?

WOW! This is a very very interesting story. I have NEVER heard of gums growing back in all my years of dental education and experience. That being said I dont dispute that someone told you this, but from my knowledge gums dont grow back. They may heal and appear healthier i.e. stippling (dental term) and color, and lack of bleeding but grow back..umm no. Also, I have never saw anyone's gums (gingival tissue) via x-rays. What you do see on an x-ray is bone, and other dense supporting structures, but NOT gingiva (gums). If that was possible she would be able to see the flesh of your cheeks as well.
That being said, I encourage you ladies (that may have similar results as the OP) to share this info with your dentist and or dental hygienist and even the ADA (American Dental Association) for further investigations and studies to see if this oil-pulling merits any real advertising/ suggesting.
Congratulations Harana! I'm encouraging a friend right now to oil pull. She has peridontal disease and is seeing her dentist for it. Oil pulling can only help with the healing process. :)
