I posted this in the Off-Topic forum before I realized I should've posted it here.

Where do you 40-something ladies shop for clothes that are age-appropriate yet youthful? When I say age-appropriate, I mean clothes that can be worn by any age without making you look your age or older because they're actually cut and designed for a woman 20 years younger. Clothes that make you look younger without it looking like you're trying, kwim?

There's no greater sight for sore eyes than to see a woman wearing an outfit that so much younger than she is, thinking she looks good when she really looks she jumped out of a time warp and forgot to change her clothes.

I ask because when I reach my goal weight I'll be mid-40ish and all the styles I see for women of 40 is more suited for a woman in her 60s. I'll dress for 60 when I get there, not before. I've also read that a common problem for women of 40 who are in shape, especially those who are really slim and petite, is having to look for clothes in the juniors section for stylish outfits while trying to avoid getting something they'll look foolish in.

So where do you ladies get your clothes? Do you follow the rules for age appropriate dressing or do you get what looks good on you? Are you able to decipher between what looks good on you and what looks good on you but is more appropriate for a younger woman? What a lot of older women don't realize is that while you may look good at 40, you still look OLDER, if not different, even if it's all good. That mini-dress you rocked when you were 25 may still fit, but it may have looked a lot better when wore it then than if you wear it now. Can you accept that and move on to find something just as flattering yet reflective of your timeless beauty? From what I've seen, a lot of 40-something can't and they really need to. I'm trying not to be that woman, so please share, if you don't mind.

Hi Connie...I like to shop at the following stores:

Macy's
Dillards
JCPenny...etc

Basically any store that has what I like. I follow some trends but I also have a style of my own. Like I mentioned in a previous thread I'm 41 but I don't dress like "they..." say a 40 something should dress...as long as I'm comforable and I look good that's all that matters to me. I still wear a mini from time to time with my high heels......hope I helped some Connie.

I hate malls with a passion, too...:nono:

I shop Nordies, Macy's, JCrew, Neiman Marcus and a smorgabord of small eclectic shops, online & off...

Style is such an individual statement... Wear only what celebrates your uniqueness and makes you feel ALIVE....:yep:

Hi January Noir !!!

How ya been girlie..?

Hey JFemme! Hanging in chica! Hope you are doing fine too!
Great point about style being an individual statement. Good advice to the OP.

I am 38 and have been thinking what you stated since I turned 30. I don't want to dress like an older woman, yet I don't want to dress like a teen either. Best bet for me:

The Limited, best fitting dress pant and jeans. No sagging behind or elongated front (where the zipper is)
GAP

Ann Taylor
I like clothes from the Ann Klein line too. My best bet to find appealing yet conservative, classy clothing is TJMaxx and Marshalls.

I try on everything. If it makes me look like an older woman, I put it back!

The person on TV to model clothes for us in our age range is Wendy Robinson (Tasha Mack) of The Game. Classy and appealing in taste all the way!!!
