Does anyone do this yourself.......If so, what brand do you use? How long does it last?

If not, how often do you get them done, what service do you get, silk, arcylic, glue, gel??

I have a gel overlay over my natural nails (though it started out as tips several months ago) that I have refilled every two weeks. The gel costs a little more ($20 vs. $15) but it dries clear so my nails look like I have a coat of clear polish when I opt not to wear colored polish. Gel nails make really pretty french manicures, especially when you have the white tip airbrushed underneath the gel overlay.

IMO the gel overlay is easier to remove than acrylic if you ever want to go back to your natural nails. The acrylic has to be soaked off...sitting with my fingers in acetone for several minutes is hard on my skin. The gel is not affected by acetone, so it is filed off in a matter of minutes. Your skin and nails are not affected as long as your manicurist doesn't get overzealous with the filer/sander.

This is what I have done. I have the gel overlay on my natural nails and I always get French. I get a lot of compliments on my nails and I do love that they look so nice and shine so pretty with the gel.:yep:

I have an acrylic overlay over my natural nails. I'm a terrible nail biter and the overlay keeps me from biting them. They grow out pretty fast so I try to get them done every 3 weeks. When they're shorter I can go 4. I usually get a pink or neutral colored polish or a french manicure. Once they get too long I get them all cut down and start over. I hear the gel is better for your nails though. My mom used to have them and she liked them but I've never tried them.
