Hi guys,

I was wondering if I could get some help from you knowledgeable ladies.

My brother's wedding is coming up in about a week, and I need make-up advice.

I don't wear make-up at all, but since this is a special occasion and all I wanted to look extra pretty (especially since I know that I will have to take pictures, and I'm not photogenic at all, so every little bit helps )

What is a good brand of make-up to try for a novice like me. In MArch of this year I had purchased some from Prescriptives (liquid foundation, eye shadow, blush, lip liner, mascara), however when I went home it did not look as good as when the lady at the counter did it. So I ended up leaving them in car for a couple of months cause I forgot about them and now the foundation is unusable.

I want to try maybe a powder foundation instead cause I was not getting the hang of applying liquid foundation.

Any good suggestions?

O by the way he is getting married in Jamaica so with the heat and humidity I don't want my make-up looking like crap.

Thanks

I love M.A.C. for color for eyes and lips. I don't like their foundation. I would recommend going to a counter and having them make suggestions for you. Try Sephora since they have different makeup brands. Chocolate Ma or Sunshine one could help you out with makeup suggestions. What is your skin tone?

Um that's a good question. When I went to the Prescriptives counter earlier this year, the foundation I bought was under the red/orange skin tone line. So I guess that would be it.

ITA w/ MAC being a good choice. I use mineral makeups for my skin, but the color is all MAC or Marykay.

Well, first and foremost, since it is in Jamaica, buy foundation primer to keep your skin as matte as possible and it will help your make-up stay on longer. The key to looking good in the humidity is light layers. For powder foundations I actually like the covergirl queen collection. My color is spicy brown. I apply primer- either mac's primer, tarte primer, or becca primer for oily skin, I let it dry for a minute or two. Then I take the biggest fluffy brush I have and use it to light "buff" the powder foundation onto my skin. I get a sheer polished look. Make sure to put primer on your eyelids too to help the eyeshadow stay on. Do your makeup outside if possible so that you know extactly how it will look in natural light. I would also recommend practicing what you plan on doing now so that you can make adjustments if need be. Sephora has tons of brands so if you have one where you are, stop by and express your need for a mattifying foundation primer and a sheer powder foundation for a outside wedding. Tell them you are going to jamacia for a wedding and you need a foundation that can stand up in the humidity.

I hope you have fun!

Mac has really nice eyeshadow colors, lip colors, and blushes. But, I wouldn't use their foundations, they are somewhat heavy and pore clogging. Since it's gonna be hot outside you might want something light and with a natural looking finish. You should go to sephora and have someone help you there. I just recently purchased a lightweight wet/dry powder foundation by Cargo from there and I like it. I live in Houston and it's very hot and humid so I wanted something lightweight. When you go looking find someone to help you that has their makeup applied in a way that you like. That will help you better gauge if that salesperson will be able to help you find what you need. Good Luck :-)

The only other tip I can think of is blend blend blend....lol...they say that's one of the most important things to do. Also, if you live near a half price books store or some type of resale book store with a good selection. Purchase a make up book, I just went to half-price books and they had a book by IN-Style titled GET GORGOUS and it really explained make up well and it was only 6 dollars, and you can pick up bobby browns make-up book there are well. They might be helpful to you :-)
