I love dry skin brushing. I brush the skin on my body w/ a natural bristle brush on dry skin before bathing. It has multiple benefits. It 'exercises' the skin so it is good for
cellulite
varicose veins
stretch marks

PLUS, I don't need body scrubs anymore...

I get so many compliments on how soft my skin is now.

try it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hmmmmm...soft skin?

That's all I need to perk my ears up. Lately, my skin has become softer becasue of the sisal washcloth that I bought at the Body Shop (thanks Allandra). However, it could never be too soft (or can it?).

At any rate, I've often heard of dry brushing but something about it didn't appeal to it. Can you tell me more about it. For example, how often do you do it and for how long?
Where did you buy the brush?

Thanks in advance!

daviine,

i would shower and then just air dry or in my bathrobe. then when my skin is dry i put on my glove (it's a thick one, i cannot tell you the word for the material it is made of) and then i start with my booty, then my legs, stomach, back, arms. afterwards i apply lotion/oil to my body and my skin is sooooooooooo soft. sometimes afterwards if i would accidentally touch my stomach i would be amazed how soft it is. it is very good. i do it maybe or times a week.
i also have gloves which i use to shower with. two come in one pack and you just put your shower gel on the gloves and then rub your body like that, i mean wash it like that. they are pretty good too.
you should be able to get both these items at the body shop but also at walmart, i think.

Daviine I brush before I shower I do 4-8 strokes toward the heart in the following sequence palms of hands, back of hands, forearms, upper arms, breasts, waistline, upper hips, soles of feet, calves, thighs, buttocks.

I use a natural bristle brush that you can find at the healthfood store.

not only does this soften the skin it 'exercises' the skin and makes it tighter and more resilient

HTH

PS If you do a google search on dry skin brushing you will find more detailed info with pics...

Did you suffer any irritation when you began to dry-brush using the natural bristle brush? My skin isn't sensitive, but I need to exfoliate and this actually sounds gentler than a lot of exfoliators /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In the beginning just be very gentle until your skin gets used to it...

Is anyone still dry brushing? I was using a natural bristle brush in the shower with my african spa bath salt.

Dry brushing is a good thing. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I like and do dry brushing as well. I do it before showering. I start at my extremities and work my way upward or inward towards my closest lymph nodes (ex. leg brushed upward toward lymph nodes in groin, arms and upper body, above navel, toward lymph nodes in arm pit on that side. I was taught this at one of the spas I visited to help in circulating my lymph fluids for drainage.

Dry brushing does wonders!
I started back up again - on dry skin b/f I jump in the shower. You feel results immediately! A great way to smooth your skin.
I use either my back brush (dry) or shower gloves (dry).
After my shower, I put on some lotion and good to go.
Another good product I love to use during the summer months is Garden Bontanika's salt glow. You apply it to dry skin then rinse/wash off and blot your skin dry. It has oil mixed in with the scrub so it leaves a fabulous glow on your skin after you get out of th eshower and no need to add any lotion - the glow/skin moisturized lasts for quite some time - into the night.
Not sure if they still sell it or if there is a comparable product out there - let me know.
