I'm now using te Obagi system. Went to the derm today. My acne is much better but I told them I wasn't playing with the hyperpigmentation anymore :look:
After talking with the esthetician, she suggested Obagi. She suggested I buy the travel kit because it contains travel sizes of all the products and was on sale. She suggested a mild jessner so since they are having a peel special, I can get 4 peels for under $300 which is a great deal. She also said my pitiful SPF 15 was another problem. I really didn't think I needed anything stronger, but she pointed out that my face and neck are slightly darker than my body skin. :perplexed The Obagi has spf35.
I know some ladies have used Obagi and the pics on their site give me hope. Just wanted to share. If you have any encouraging words to share about Obagi, lemme know!
(Oh, and she didn't recommend TCA peels for my skin so no blue peel for me)

I am back on Obagi. It really is a good system but it is killing my pocket.
Why didn't she recommend TCA Peels?

Because of the risk of HYPOpigmentation. Yes, Obagi is expensive. But, I'm hoping I don't have to be on the whole system forever. It seems like the clear, exfoderm are the big guns. I can probably find another sunscreen and cleanser that I like in the future.
How did it work for you?

It worked great. I thought the job was done and stopped using it ......I have a problem with cystic acne occassionally and this really does a good job with it...I should have never stopped using it. I think once I get to where I want to be I will use it more sporadically, ie not every day and night...maybe every 2-3 days etc. I'm using the clear and the exfoderm in other places so i know I'll be running out quickly.

Girl please, I've used Obagi for over 3 years now. I've also had the Obagi Blue Peel, first a two layer then 3 LAYER ONE!!!! The two layer didn't really do that much but the 3 layer peel was of the hizzy!!!! :yep: I love Obagi when used in conjunction with Retin-A!

I used Obagi for 3 years and it worked like a dream! But, I only used it during the evening not during the day. My derm seriously warned me about hyperpigmentation and sensitive skin issues so I wore a wide brimmed hat and sunscreen constantly. When I stopped using Obagi, my skin was MEGA sensitive due to the Retin A. I began mixing the Retin A with Cetaphil cream and the sensitivity lessened. Your derm may not tell you but you can mix a small amount of Obagi Clear, Retin A, Cetaphil topped with a small amount of Aquaphor to combat lines under your eyes. I used this every other day and lines were gone!

Thanks! They did give me a small sample of Cetaphil. Lucky for me, I have oily skin so I don't dry out easily. Also, I've used Retin A for years and it only irritates my skin from time to time.
I hate to get too excited but I love the way my skin feels after using the products. Very smooth and soft. I really hope that I see a difference soon. I can't believe how silly I was. I really though SPF 15 was sufficient. I like hats so I will be wearing even more this summer now that I'm on hydroquinone.

 Thanks. I think when they see a person of color, they try to be extra cautious. The Jessner she recommended I *believe* has TCA but I need to look it up again.

I used Obagi a couple of years ago but stopped once my skin was even. My skin started acting up a few months ago, so I have dark spots that I want to get rid of and I'll be using Obagi again. Even though it's expensive, my dark marks faded very quickly when I used this so I'll just comparison shop on the net.

I haven't experienced a lot of peeling like I read some others have. I think one or 2 spots have peeled off but not large areas. Should I be using more product? Also, the kit that I bougt had the regular sunscreen. Should I try the sunfader instead? Also, I read in an old post that Exfoderm (Phytic acid) is stronger than Exfoderm Forte (Lactic and AHA). Is that accurate?

#4 is what causes the peeling. I have noticed I'm not peeling quite as much but I have been using it sparingly. I'm off for the next couple of days so I may up my usage a bit. I didn't like the regular sunscreen it was filmy and whitish/gray looking on my face. I use sunfader.

Thanks for the reply. I had been using the Exfoderm sparingly (about 1/2 a gram) but I will use more this evening.

I guess this is turning into my Obagi diary. :D
I *think* I see lightening already. I say that because the dark areas are more noticeable (if that makes sense). I was using the clear all over twice a day, but if you have dark skin, you're only supposed to use the clear on the dark spots at night.
My face is starting to get irritated, too. Like how it was when I first started using Retin A years ago: just itchy. I'm breaking out too. Hopefully, it's not the product itself.

Update: my skin is irritated around my mouth corner (which the brochure said can happen).
I seem to be lightening non-uniformly. It's amazing how fast the Obagi works, but now I'm blotchy. How can I even it up?

Hey, I have a question too about obagi. My doctor put me on obagi clenziderm after my cosmelan peel to get rid some acne that i had. I didn't have too much before. But now my face has exploded with lots and lots of acne and it is so red and splotchy and flaky. It's looking much much worse in only 2 days! I had literally 50 new blemishes show up overnight, argg!
Has any used this system before? I know that most people said that the first 4 weeks on obagi was a nightmare and i am trying to get used to that. But it took me so so long to get my face to a point where I wasn't breaking out often. Does anyone have any suggestions to lessen or control the effects of this transition period. Pleassssse let me know. This is not looking good. I was looking great only 2 days ago.

I don't know what the clenziderm is. Is it a set? Or just a face wash? Often acne products make you break out because it's bringing the left over crap to the surface while preventing more crap from forming. Stick with it! My skin texture is really changing.

yea the clenziderm is another obagi system, it has 3 pieces, a wash, toner and gel. It's relatively new. ok, i think i found a semi solution i am trying to extract the clogs with the tweezerman extration tool before they turn into pimples so that has been working ok for me, hopefully this will be over soon. my face has calmed down a lot after doing that along with a baking soda mask. pheww!
