I was told MSM help acne, so I've been taking it for a week. I'm experiencing a really bad breakout(don't know if it's from the msm or new products). Has MSM helped anyone's acne or made it worse? Is it supposed to get worse(detox) first before it begins to heal? If so, how long before you start seeing results?
thanks

I never had acne but one needs to drink lots of water when taking MSM because it does detox the body. The normal amount of water to drink is 1/2 your body's weight in ounces of water each day.

Yes, MSM has been known to help acne. However, because MSM is a powerful antioxidant, you will notice detoxing effects if your body is full of toxins. One way to offset the side effect of breakouts is so drink plenty of water and eat well.

How much water are you drinking each day? What are you using topically?

MSM is great for most people, my allergies were virtually non-existant while on this, but my skin couldn't tolerate it. I already break out and this made the breakouts worse. I drank plenty of water etc. and I gave it several months, but it just wasn't for me. It also made my periods heavier and longer so I had to give it up.

I always feel like the naysayer in these threads, lol. I guess my body/skin just can't take a-lot of things.

Hey Rockville, MD --

If MSM doesn't work for you and you want to see a great dermatologist, I rec. Dr. Paula Bourrelly at Olney Dermatology. She cleared me up when she was practicing in DC (with that "Black Opal" lady), but since I no longer live in the area I have had great success staying clear with MSM and Olive Oil washes.

Good luck and sorry the miracle of MSM didn't work for you.

This is Dr. Bourrelly's website (www.olneyderm.com).

what are the other benefits, what else can i expect? i started taking it, 1000mg twice a day. for the 1st week i only took one a day then started with 2. i didnt have any breakouts and i feel so much more energized. at 1st i was tired, no not tired, in the morning it was hard for me to get up. my body would feel so heavy. that lasted about a week, week and a half. i started taking vitamin c because i read that msm works better with it. how many should you take? whats a good amount? anyone??

I've been doing a search on LHCF about MSM and skimming through all these threads I found during my search. I think I'm going to buy some today. I want to see if it will get rid of my acne, inflammation of my feet, and occasional knee pain.
