Nevermind...I'll just tell those haters to shove and then do what truely inspires me.

LOL. I've thought about this too in the past. I am naturally a competitive person. While I do think God wants us to strive to be our best and put forth excellence, I don't think He wants us to have vindictive goals . . . that can lead to sabotaging others and a host of other problems. So I think you're right to focus on yourself.
Funny story. I was once in a debate and our team coach was some sort of national champion. So just before we were supposed to go on stage he tells us to get in a circle and join hands. Me, being the church girl, think we're about to pray. Then he says, "I want to you focus on a word -- like DECIMATE. We are going to CRUSH the other team!"

I've thought about this one and IMO I believe that God doesn't want us to be competitive. I believe we were made for different and individual purposes we are our own standards in God's eyes. I believe to compete is like saying I need to be better that the next when being where you are at any given moment may be where are supposed to be or be doing. By looking at someone else we are ignoring possibly what God want us to see at that time. Because we are looking elsewhere to be where someone else is or to make sure we are ahead of where another individual is.

I think the only one God would want us to be competitive with is ourselves. If you read Ecclesiastes 4:4, Solomon says "4 And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man's envy of his neighbor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind."
I totally agree with this. People who are always competitive with others are only trying to shine, not really be the best for Godly or positive reasons. I am competitive with myself, always trying to be better than I was before. But if you are obsessed with being competitive with others, this can be a dangerous game!
