There is a new challenge on the hair care forum to consume a lot of protein to increase growth rate. Some of the ladies mentioned that they are doing the challenge to increase hair growth rate and loose weight.

I know that people trying to gain a lot of muscle consume a lot of protein. Can someone break down to me how consuming a lot of protein contributes to weight loss?

TIA

I know that protein can curb the appetite, which can contribute to weight loss. It can also reduce one's craving for sweets. Here's an article about protein and weight loss that I found in a Google search:

I am new to this whole protein thing, but I am told that the ingredient Leucine is responsible for curbing your appetite so if you decide to do the challenge and are looking to loose weight try to find a protein powder high in Leucine, I purchased Jay Robb's Whey. HTH

Leucine is an amino acid. Proteins are made up of amino acids. Leucine is an essential amino acid, meaning that your body cannot synthesize it, so you must ingest it. Leucine does help with appetite control, and it is also used by your muscles, and the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn.

actually I'm asking because I don't want to loose that much weight. I guess I'll have to see what happen after month one.

I have been working with a personal trainer and have noticed a big difference. I do the protein powder twice a day. My fat is converting into muscle. He says without protein, we loose fat and muscle and whatever muscle that is lost, as soon as we stop exercising, the muscle that was lost is replaced with fat. You will see a difference, the scale will not go down dramatically, maybe 1-2 lbs a week, but the inches will drop off from toning/building muscle. I notice a big differnce in my clothes, he says to never let the scale discourage you if it doesn't drop dramatically. I feel so much tighter and I'm just on week 3. :) ;)
