View Full Version : Drinking this will burn 50 calories!
I was watching the Tyra show last night in which she had Jorge Cruise the creator of the 3 hour diet on. He took a glass of ice water with ice cubes and mixed it with some powdered green tea. He went on to say drinking this will burn 50 calories! It's a negative calorie drink.
My eyes zoomed in trying to read the label. I could not see the label so I surfed around an found out that the green tea is most likely:
Instant Green Tea, by Wisdom of the Ancients.
What do you think? Has anyone tried this drink?

I've also heard that drinking a large glass of ice water first thing in the morning will help to burn fat. Drinking the cold water reduces your core body temp, and your body if forced to speed up its normal metabolic process to raise your body temp. back to normal.

I heard this too. I used to drink green tea with ice first thing in the morning. I need to start doing this again.

This sounds interesting...
I may try this out!
But the only thing is, I've ALSO heard that drinking water that is TOO cold/ice water on a regular basis is not a good thing. Has anyone else heard of this?? Something about how the cold water turns fat/cholesterol (something) into a solid going through your body, and how that isn't good for you. I know I'm not making this up! I read it somewhere (on this forum actually) online.
But at any rate...I'll check this method out.

I understand that drinking green tea increases thermogenesis. What I don't understand or know, is if drinking these green tea drinks that they tell you to drink really helps. The reason I say this, is b/c how much of the active thermogenic ingredient (it's ECGC, right?) in the green tea are you actually consuming? There is no standardized dose per se. If you tell me 50mg of green tea increases your calorie burn by 50 cals per week, and then give me a drink with 5mg in it, well that is not going to get me to my goals fast, is it? And people sell these drinks and the tea bags but no one tells you how much of the thermogenic component you're actually getting in yoru body. One of the things w/ephedra, was that it contained Ephedrine, which is a thermogenic, but it also had 4 other components. You never knew just how much ephedrine you were getting from those over the counter supplemenets. Well, you CAN get pure ephedrine with a prescription. 25mg would be the thermogenic dose that you'd be shooting for. So, my point is, how much of this drink will burn me 50cals? Is it 8oz or 8 gallons? Also, 50 calories in what period of time. I can't remember what sources I looked at, but iirc I read that it burned I believe 100 calories a day, so if you drank green tea daily, that would translate into about a pound extra weight loss every 35 days :perplexed . Not great, but better than a pound gained or staying the same.

All very good questions AC !;) and honestly, I dont have the answers, but i do know since adding Matcha tea to my day, my weight IS affected. I'm losing easier, without much change to my diet('cept the tea has reduced my appetite) or exercise routine. I feel like there is something to this, even though it was not my original intent. Intially, I was looking for an alternative to coffee, as it raises my blood pressure..:)
Interesting, though;) Let's keep the discussion going...

From WHFoods (http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=146):
Green tea is particularly rich in health-promoting flavonoids (which account for 30% of the dry weight of a leaf), including catechins and their derivatives. The most abundant catechin in green tea is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which is thought to play a pivotal role in the green tea's anticancer and antioxidant effects. Catechins should be considered right alongside of the better-known antioxidants like vitamins E and C as potent free radical scavengers and health-supportive for this reason.
Most of the research showing the health benefits of green tea is based on the amount of green tea typically consumed in Asian countries-about 3 cups per day (which would provide 240-320 mg of polyphenols). Just one cup of green tea supplies 20-35 mg of EGCG, which has the highest antioxidant activity of all the green tea catechins.
The health benefits of green tea have been extensively researched and, as the scientific community's awareness of its potential benefits has increased, so have the number of new studies. As of November 2004, the PubMed database contained more than 1,000 studies on green tea, with more than 400 published in 2004! Following is a brief summary of some of the high points of this most current research.
Green tea drinkers appear to have lower risk for a wide range of diseases, from simple bacterial or viral infections to chronic degenerative conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke, periodontal disease, and osteoporosis. The latest studies provide a deeper understanding of the ways in which green tea:
I'm sure this varies by brand though, but good info nonetheless.

Celery is another negative calorie thing.
Chewing on celery burns more calories than the amount of calories that are in the celery b/c celery is made up of almost only water.

Now, if only celery were good without the ranch dressing :look:
I drink diet green tea daily. One thing it does do for me is help me to stay regular. It tastes pretty good for a 0 calorie drink. Even if I don't lose weight with it I am ok with all of its other benefits.
