Hi everyone. I'm 32 years old and I've had a tonsillectomy. I've been told that it's rarely preformed on adults because of the pain level. I have been absolutely miserable. :( I haven't eaten since last Sunday and can only handle gatorade, ice water, some sherbert mixed with gingerale (has to be a smoothie like consistency), and popsicles. I've been taking hydrocodone for the pain.... it's the only thing that actually works.

I'm concerned about my nutrition. The medical staff was very up front about what I would have to face and that I would be in pain for 2-3 weeks (even though the actual healing time averages two weeks.) I was also told that the average adult loses from 10-15 pounds... my sista friend lost 30 because she couldn't eat for almost a month. I don't care about weight loss but I am concerned that I'm not eating right. I tried to take a liquid amino blended in water and it set me on fire. I have an entire jar of whey protein but the juices I like to mix it with (orange, V8 Splash, etc) burn and I can't drink them. I thought about ice cream (regular, soy, etc) but it produces way too much phlegm. Any advice?

I am very curious as to why you had your tonsils removed? I hope you feel better soon.

Awww, I just want to say that I'm sorry you're miserable and in so much pain. :( I hope you do feel better way before expected. I know you're worried about your health and your food intake, but sweetie this is just one of those seasons where you'll have to do what you can. Eat or drink what you can handle. You may have to get most of your calories from liquids or something until you get a little better and have less pain.

Feel better soon.

Girl I feel your pain. I had mine taken out this past August. I lost 14 pounds in 2 weeks. I mostly ate applesauce, popsicles, and made smoothies in order to get in some type of food. I also would put crackers in my mouth and let them get soggy and then swallow to get some carbs in. Yes any type of citrus fruit burned going down. So I timed when I took my meds to when I needed to eat so as soon as they kicked in I could squeeze in something. Soy ice cream will probably work best since it won't produce any phlegm. It does get a lot better after week too, just take your time. Pm me if you have any other questions. HTH Q

Thanks so much ladies. I truly appreciate the words of encouragement.

Michelle I had a bad infection and my tonsils fluctuated between the sizes of large marbles and ping pong balls. I tried antibiotics but they didn't work. They caused me to have ear issues so they had to go.
