I don;t really wear makeup so I'm not sure if I'm using the right term here. When I put my mascara on, it makes my eyelashes stick together so that it looks like I have 5 eyelashes! Is this what is called clumping?
At any rate, what causes this? Is it the brand of the mascara? Is it in my application of the mascara? Or does it mean that I need to throw my mascara out? (Not really sure if I've had this mascara longer than three months).
I know you're supposed to throw out your mascara every three months or so BUT I probably wear mascara about 5 times or so in three months.
Thanks!

This is indeed clumping. Use a lash comb, preferably made w/ metal teeth, and separate the lashes before the mascara dries.

I experienced the same problem until I started to use Lancome mascara. Unfortunately, it is pricey ($20 for one tube), but it's worth it for me because my eyelashes never clumped any more and I get many more compliments on my eyes/eye make up now.
Regarding the 3 month rule, please follow it. It doesn't matter how many times you use the mascara, once you've had it that long the make up itself becomes unsafe because it spoils. The health of your eyes is worth a lot more than a tube of mascara.

Thanks lunalight! I was thinking that was what I probably needed to do but was unsure.
miss brown-thanks for the suggestion but I can't justify spending $20 on a tube of mascara that I'll only use 5x in 3 months.

I TOO DONT USE MAKEUP BUT I WAS ADVISED THAT IF oops sorry hit the caps...i do then i should brush thru with an old baby toothbrush (gentler on the lashes that metal), also when applying the mascara make sure there is as little mascara on the brush as possible.

Clumping could also mean that the mascara is old and needs to be replaced. Even if you are not using it a lot it could be ...not good for you eyes ( for lack of a better word) to use old mascara. This is what I have read and I noticed I would get like little pimple on my eye lid when I kept the mascara too long .

Mascara will clump if its put on too thick. First, cover your eyelashes with one coat of mascara. Wait until it dry to add more and only put it on the tips of your eyelashes, again, one coat at a time, making sure each coat is dry before you proceed with the next application. Hope this helps you out!
