Okay, so I want to hide. My shame is this damn facial hair under my chin. The hair is not in the middle but on either side of my chin. I hate it. I want it to disappear. I hate plucking. I can't take the pain. I hate waxing. I can't take that pain either. I will use these methods but it only seems to make it grow back more. I have tried the hair removal stuff, didn't really help. I even awhile ago resorted to shaving it even though I knew better. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/naughty.gif It's too late to admonish. Nothing seems to work. And it just seems no matter what it is it still keeps growing back. I am considering electrolysis. I heard it's a little painful though but produces results. My biggest concern is scarring, and facial discoloration. I don't need to draw any attention to that area. You know what I mean??? Laser treatment is too expensive and I also heard may actually discolour people of darker pigmentation. I also heard of VANIQA. I guess I will have to talk to my family doctor about that one. But does it work? Is there really a permanent solution?? HELP!!! Does anyone have any possible solutions/advice to getting rid of unsightly facial hair? What has worked for you??? Also, heaven knows I don't want to take Biotin in fear of me growing a fuzzy beard when I already have hair there.

I have a lot of hair on my fce and it also causes my to have white and black heads because oil gets trapped under the hair. i did electrolysis but it was doing too small of a space at a time so i would have to have nearly 20 treatments. So i did some reseasrch and found that there is a new laser that just came out called coolglide that is approved for AA american skin. Its pretty cheap as far as lasers go-- only 150 per treatment and you should only need 3 treatments for the face. I am going to start as soon as i get rid of these brown spots because you cant get the treatment if you use photosensitive medication, ehich i do, so I will probably start in september. If you want to wait i will report my results in october! hope that helps!

You could always get it waxed off. Works for me. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Please stop plucking...it makes the hair grow in coarser and you will be prone to ingrown hairs, which leads to even more hyperpigmentation. I get electrolysis in that area and even though there is some hyperpigmentation, its much, much less than when I plucked. Its true that it takes forever to finally kill all of the follicles - - Ive been doing it for years ....but there are fewer and fewer hairs growing back. And when they do, they are finer, and the dark spots are lighter than they were. If this really bothers you because its noticible, I dont think you should have to suffer....consider laser treatments. I hear that they do work, and they use different machinery for dark skin.

I can sympathize. I've been in a never-ending battle to get rid of facial hair. I've tried plucking, cream depilatories, electrolysis (for a couple of months), waxing, four laser hair removal sessions a couple of years ago (with the Lyra laser, which according to my research was safest at the time for African American skin types--it was expensive and ineffective), epilator machines like Braun and Emjoi, as well as the small facial shavers and the sander mitts. So far, nothing has worked to my satisfaction.

There have been several threads on this topic already. Try searching "hair" or "facial hair" on the Skin Care Discussion board. I've bumped a few threads for you.

I agree with Luvhair, the coolglide really works. Of course nothing is really permenant. After the hair is gone you do need occasional maintenance session as needed. But I've seen people who it makes a big difference. From what I've seen it may be more money than electrolysis, but people who have done that still end up getting the laser.

You ladies and this board are amazing. I am going to have to read and read and read. I live in Toronto, Canada so I will definitely have to do my research for an electrologist, and a laser treatment facility. I just want it gone!!!

Hey mzB, a natural method to reduce hair growth is exfoliation, use a flannel/towellete daily (wet), also after hair removal (i know its painful but waxing and sugaring are the best methods. i used to do my sisters but mow the hair is barely there. its worth getting it done...electrolysis and laser also are painful and they can leave terrible scarring that is permanent.
Also one of the best things that is used is the skin of a raw papaya fruit. the enzyme papain is great for inhibiting hair growth...

Thanx for the great info RachiQue. I knew of papaya's digestive benefits but not about inhibiting hair growth!

Mxbrickhouse - - Vaniqua does work at making the hair growth in slower and finer.

Ditto on the Vaniqua. I've been using it since July 2002.

I am a very hairy person. I also have hair on my chin and used to tweeze them all the time. Then after I started taking my vitamins I started getting increased growth of the facial hair. I decided to try the laser hair removal. This link gives info for the place where I went. . Affordable Laser Hair Removal (http://www.laserhairremoval.com/washington_dc.htm) The first one was free. It did sting a little. They did my chin/neck and upper lip. I paid for 4 chin treatments ($340 discount when you buy 4). My first treatment she did my upper lip again for free and did my chin/neck. It looked great. The second treatment she turned the strength of the laser up cuz I had a slight tan (i'm light skinned). Anyhow, needless to say the laser burned me. I had some brown circles on my chin/neck area. I used hytrocortizone and they disappeared in about a week. I went back for my second treatment and told her what happened and not to turn it up so high. So I used my second/third treatment for my upper lip and chin and it turned out great. I think it makes my face look so much better. I have one more chin/neck treatment and hopefully no more hair. I can say that with the 4/5 treatments it has decreased the hair growth significantly. I believe it was well worth the money for the laser hair removal.

Where I went she normally does not do african american people. I think I was probably her first. But she has done ethic people such as people from iraq, asian people with a yellowish skin tone. But it does not hurt to go for the free consultation to see what they say. If you have any questions .. just let me know ..

don't be embarrassed. now a days you can have it removed w/ lasers. I have gone for one laser treatment. BUT YOU HAVE TO FIND A DOCTOR WHO KNOWS HOW TO TREAT AFRICAN AMERICAN SKIN. the laser trmt was not painful- but uncomfortable- i think it was worth it

I've tried lasers the result were good but not stellar considering the amt you pay. Pls visit this website: lucypeters.com. The offer electrolysis with a twist, very safe for AA skin and the results are guaranteed. Trust me this is as good as it gets. They charge $140 per hour, they offer half hour sessions also. I hope they have a location in your area.
