View Full Version : Good places (and spas) for facials

I have been getting facials for a bit. I have also seen that the results I get are based on where I have been - have been to some good places for a facial and some really bad ones (like a peel that produced no results http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif, a bad facial from ULTA and another bad one at a resort Jamaica http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/down.gif) - but I just noted a few places where I have had the BEST results http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif After going, I have gotten double-takes guys with no make-up on http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I usually try to go to a place every 6 weeks but am now trying to duplicate the procedure at home. Anwho, if you are ever in the area, give them a try:
Some places I have gotten facials (best one listed first):
In Heidelberg, Germany: facial: http://www.coscos.de/English/ - If anyone is in Heidelberg for a day or so, this place is REALLY great! It takes 2 hours for them to do a facial (they did go a little overboard on the hand-stroking thing though) but I LUVED the results! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The atmosphere is intimate and not showy like ULTA.
In San Antonio, Texas:facial: http://www.kcharlesco.com/html_index.htm - expensive but they do a good job. I like the aromatherapy facial. BTW, it is an Aveda salon.
In Austin, TX: a day at the spa: Healing Waters (Austin, TX) - http://www.lakeaustinspa.com/ - this is good for a day treatment - got a body scrub, facial, massage, reflexology. I would not stay there on vacation - just for the day spa. It is on the lake and they have fresh flowers everywhere - not busy like Ulta or Aveda.
To toss in:
In St. Lucia: a week at the spa: St. Lucia (I stayed there for a week for free) : http://www.lesport.com.lc/ - great place. I'm going to get back there someday! - all sorts of massages, facials, reflexology, good-tasting nutritious food (not junk) plus it is on the ocean - lost weight, felt great and looked good after coming back. BTW, it is the combination of things there - not the facial alone - that produced good results.
If anyone else knows of some good spas or places to get facials, please let me know http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/trampoline.gif

What kind of facial did you have at Ulta and what didn't you like about it? I was thinking about going there, that's why I'm asking.
I know this is off-topic, but how did you manage to stay in St Lucia for free!!??

Regarding the facial at Ulta, I remember having acne at the time and getting some sort of glycolic facial. I wasn't impressed at all http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif The glycolic didn't do much. I remember it costing a pretty penny and not getting too much of a benefit. They have a showy outside but when you go into the room - it is plain white and unfriendly http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif The woman who worked on me didn't know what she was doing either. Now, when I go get a *decent* facial, if it is done properly, my skin looks really, really great http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The good places I have been to have homey (sp?) rooms with colors on the walls and/or aromatherapy.
On to St. Lucia. Well - what happened is that I had gone to St. Lucia the previous year. I had made a plan to stay at the spa there for 3 days before heading to another place. Little did I know that a hurricaine came in the week before and damaged the place (I made my plans waaayyyy in advance). Anywho, the spa was in the process of being "repaired/rebuilt". So, the manager said that since I (and a few other castaways) could not spend our vacation there (as planned), they sent us to another resort (which was just as nice) and paid for the stay. In addition, to keep us quiet, he said that on our next return trip to St. Lucia, we could stay at the spa for a full week for free http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Needless to say, I went back the following year. At the time, my company was doing well, so, instead of giving out bonus money, they gave out airline tickets. I was supposed to go with a friend but he decided not to go at the last minute. That was even better http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Because they were expecting a couple, I stayed in a "couple's room" - it was on the top floor, ocean view and because he didn't come, I did my treatments *and* took his too http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I had a really great time http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif All for the FREE!
Oh - and one more thing, I probably would not have gotten the free week if I (and the other castaways) had not called up the resort manager, and complained about our vacations being ruined http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/angeldevil.gif

Mufasa ~~ Thank you Oh sooo much for those links..
There's nothing like first hand referral (info ) before you plunk down your cash...
I sent the Heidelberg link to my daughter ( she works in Heidelberg ) and I took a look-see at the ( lesport ) site. St. Lucia sounds mighty relaxing to my soul.. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/rosebud.gif

I wish someone had NY facial recommendations...
I would love to get a facial - but I have visions of people torturing my skin and blotchy welted skin (from extractions) dancing in my head..
I've heard stories... http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Getting a rec would certainly take some of the uncertainty out of the process. At least I'll know they're GOOD - you know?

Shesheido (sp) in SoHo gives free facials (one time only I think). I had one and it was great...they do a computer analysis of your skin then choose products from their line to use. They make you herbal tea and leave you in this room w/ zen music playing. Then they give you a card with the website where all of your customized products are listed under your name so you can purchase them if you decide to later on. There was no pressure to buy anything after the facial.

Any suggestions for MA, boston area?
I have been to Rosaline's in Brookline, MA she is good but you have to get her, the rest of her staff is mediocre.
Elzabeth Grady is a chain, the woman hurt my face something awful and also got clay mask in my hair, I mean a huge glob and not on my hairline.

Tiff I agree, I've been to Feline Day Spa and it was a great experience. I got a facial, full body massage, hot cream manicure and a reflexology pedicure. My face had such a beautiful bronzed glow.
