When you were diagnosed with PCOS, what medications/therapy/treatment/lifestyle change/etc; helped to combat the symptoms of PCOS/PCOD?

Were you diagnosed with Diabetes, or told you were insulin resistant?

Was losing weight the major factor in helping your symptoms?

Were you diagnosed based off of the cosmetic symptoms? (skin tags, dark patches, facial hair, acne?) the hormone (fsh tests?) vaginal ultrasound to see if there were actual ovarian cysts? or a combination of these?

My new dr. told me that my previous dr. should not have diagnosed me based off of acne, skin tags, and hormone tests alone, and that she should have done the ultrasound for a proper diagnosis..I thought it was all the same?

Anyway..any insight into treatment other than birth control pills would help a lot. I don't take them, because even though I don't have a 28 day cycle, I still get a period every 6 weeks or so.

Exercise, cut carbohydrates was pretty much the only way for me to go, it helped me feel better, but still is still so much more I want to change in my life. My GYN put me on Yasmin BCP's, but we decided to try for a baby, so I stopped taking it. I gained a few pounds while on it.

Mild Insulin Resistance

I think it will help me in the future. Losing weight is an ongoing battle for me, but I feel if i lose 50 pounds, it will help me DRASTICALLY. So many other cysters that i chatted with on soulcysters.com have said losing the weight helped, but with PCOS the hardest part is getting there.

I was diagnosed with my symptoms and blood tests. I have dark patches, just a few skin tags (under my arms), ovarian cysts, problems losing weight, depression, facial hair. I had an ultrasound and you could see the "string of pearls" around both of my ovaries.

I had my ultrasound done after I was diagnosed by a different dr. They have put me on metformin which is a diabetes medication as precaution twice, but each time I get so sick with it that I had to stop taking it. I have been trying to manage it on my own, but i need some help so I am going to start going to see my endocrinologist again.

What kind of dr are you seeing? Have you ever been to soulcysters.com?
