I am planning on buying the whey protein for hair and skin help. I have a few questions. Does it make you gain weight? Also I can not stomach shakes of any kind and was wondering if I mix the mix in low fat yogart will it have the same effect? Thanks in advance.

Whey protein will help you lose weight. Yogurt, even low fat, can add weight if you're trying to lose it. If you don't like shakes, you can always buy the plain whey protein and add a scoop to soups and other food.

I haven't tried soy protein shakes. Maybe someone else has.

Overall calorie increases cause weight gain. I personally love whey protein shakes and they help me lose weight. The reason being is that protien for one is harder for you body to process so you feel fuller longer and your temp. actually raises slightly after a high protien meal because you body is working on breaking it down. How do you plan on using your protien shake? What I am saying is that if you already consume enough calories to maintain you weight and you start drinking shakes on top of that, you might see slight weight gain. Whenever I use the shakes I cut back on something else. For example I usually use the shakes as my breakfast with some fruit. My shake with 1 cup of fat free milk has about 200 calories. If I want to have a shake without subbing it for another thing I might just drink water for the day and elminate other bev. calories. One of the easiest ways to encorporate it into your daily eating habits is to have one for your snack. Eat your regular breakfast, lunch, and dinner and instead of chips or whatever you snack just have a shake. That should cause any weight gain issues. Just remember to calculate how many calories are in you shake so you can keep that in perspective. Overall, whey protien makes a great addition to a healthly diet.

From my personal experience I wouldn't say that they are better than whey. Whey protein is assimualted very well in the body. Soy protien also contains plant estrogen. This is something to be aware of because it will behave the same way as our "regular" estrogen in our bodies. This another reason why alot of people recommend using it with caution with pregnant women and men. Using them a couple of times a weeks usually doesn't effect anything though. If you are consuming alot of soy on a regular basis, that is when caution should be exercised.

Just both if you haven't had any issues. I still eat soy nuts sometimes.

Sorry for the late response. Thank you all for your responses. Isis I will stop eating the yogurt. I was eating that Dannon fit and light I had no idea that it was causing weight gain and Gymfreak I will try cutting out something else. That does make a lot of sense. My only thing with shakes are is that I get nausea half way through them no matter what type it is. I know it is mind of matter, but for some reason shakes give me a sicking feeling in my stomach and I want to throw up. I was planning on adding it to yogurt, but I see now that it can cause weightgain. I will think of something.

Try blending in frozen fruit. The fiber in fruit might help stablize your stomach if the shakes are giving you nausea. What are you mixing it with?

One other think on whey shakes and protein shakes in general. I prefer those that don't use aspartame or splenda for sweetening. I think they make it more difficult to lose the weight. I use plain whey and add stevia when I mix it, or I like this new shake they sell at Whole Foods called Restart. Lot's of fiber and no artificial sweetners, and it seems to fill me up.
