Please claim the victory (as I am).

I love my baby very much and know she can do this (she began a much longer program at a for profit school). I know she just needs encouragement and I am giving it to her, and I want my sisters in Christ to help me in this aspect.

She will be finished with this program early August - and the timing is perfect because I will be starting my first semester of nursing school and would prefer that we both arent tackling life-changing curriculum simultaneously.

I'm posting here because I've seen the way we encourage each other and I thank God for that.

Thank you so much in advance and God Bless you.

An "interactive public art exhibit" that invited passers-by to touch black women's hair sparked a backlash by other African-American women, who said it was a demeaning stunt.

A recent "interactive public art exhibit" in New York City that invited strangers to touch the hair of a group of black women in a park has caused a backlash, with many African-American women decrying the event as a demeaning stunt.

The event, organized by the black women’s hair-care website Un-ruly.com, hoped to open a conversation about the “tactile fascination with black hair,” Un-ruly founder Antonia Opiah wrote in a blog post announcing the event. It consisted of a handful of black women with various hairstyles holding signs reading, “You can touch my hair” in Manhattan’s busy Union Square Park. Many strangers accepted the invitation, stopping to talk to the women and feel their tresses.

The exhibition did spark conversation, but not in the way Opiah had expected. By the event’s second day, June 8, a group of black women had gathered to protest the display, holding signs with slogans such as “You cannot touch my hair” and “What’ll it be next . . . my butt?” Some took to Twitter and the blogosphere, comparing the spectacle to a petting zoo and saying it harkened to a time when African-Americans were used as attractions in freak shows in the United States and Europe.

I am in a challenge mood so I think this would be a good one:grin:

The first day of Summer is Friday, June 21st and the last day is September 21st. I think I can commit myself to something hair related for 3 months hahahaha

These are my initial thoughts on the rules which aren't many. Let me know if we should change or tweak them in any way.

1. Must Wash and Go at least 3 times a week. Meaning, water should hit your head at least 3 times a week so the wash and go will be fresh so to speak. I normally get lazy and go for multiple day hair which I should still be able to do working with the 3 day minimum.

2. Pictures!!!! hahahaha..I want to see your results from the various products you might use. Right now my objective is finding something to mix with my favorite gel that will soften up my wash and go but still leave me with the same definition.

3. Share new products and/or techniques that you are doing. You can post a starting picture for length check if you would like but since this really isn't a length challenge, it's not required but is certainly welcomed.

Let me know if you are in by thanking my post:grin:

I will post my first pic probably on Friday no later than Saturday. In the meantime, please post what products you are using and what gives you the best results!

Anybody wanna come with me? LadyP is the first person to inspire me so much that I immediately braided my hair into a zig zag up the back of my head and got real serious about wigging it for the next 12 months. I combed all through her recent thread TWA to Hip Length in 4 yrs and her TWA to MBL in 3 years and all throughout her LHCF Blog Entries for clear explanations about exactly what she's doing to retain every inch of her luscious locs. She has been an inspiration and example of what real commitment can do!

From what I gather, LadyP does the following:

- Hair braided in circle with the "Deep Moisture Method" (description to follow)
- Braids are left for 1 to 2 months
- Shampoo and DC weekly while still in braids
- Moisturize and seal as needed while still in braids
- Sleep with satin bonnet
- Hard protein every 6 to 8 weeks after braids are removed (essential, according to LadyP because of Deep Moisture Method)
- LadyP's vitamin regi: "Vitamins for the Hair, from Puritan's Pride, gelatin, garlic oil and Vitamin E"
- LadyP also does henna treatments but I'm not sure how frequently. I'll be replacing these with ayurveda tea rinses while braids still in.

Deep Moisture Method Description:

 For those of you joining in with LadyP's Deep Moisture Retention Challenge, please answer the following questions:

What is your PS of choice?
Are you natural or relaxed?
What are you using for your DC of choice for the deep moisture method?
What are you using to seal before braiding?
What are you using to wet your hair before DC is added?
How will you moisturize and seal while PS is in? What products?
How often will you wash? What method? What products?
What will you use for your hard protein treatment? and how often?
What else might you add to reach your goals?

Here are my answers below:

What is your PS of choice? I am wigging it but I may also sew it up
Are you natural or relaxed? I am a 4a/b natural
What are you using for your DC of choice for the deep moisture method? I used lacio lacio intensive conditioner mixed with a moisture conditioning balm knock off that I'd souped up with some MSM and wheat germ oil
What are you using to seal before braiding? I sealed with coconut
What are you using to wet your hair before DC is added? african royal braid spray (it's got silk amino acids and wheat germ )
How will you moisturize and seal while PS is in? What products? african royal braid spray and coconut oil
How often will you wash? What method? What products? amla/brahmi tea and conditioner cowashes twice a week
What will you use for your hard protein treatment? and how often? aphogee two step every other month
What else might you add to reach your goals? I am spritzing my scalp before cowashes with a tea, msm and aloe mixture to combat shedding. I also take garlic and hair vitamins.

This challenge will run from July 1st 2013- July 1st 2014. Length check pics are due at 4 month intervals, so there will be 3 total. My answers to the questions are below:

What is your PS of choice? Halfwig
Are you natural or relaxed? Texlaxed
What are you using for your DC of choice for the deep moisture method? Not sure, will update late
What are you using to seal before braiding? Jane Carter Nourish & Shine
What are you using to wet your hair before DC is added? Braid Rx
How will you moisturize and seal while PS is in? What products? Braid Rx and seal with moisture mix
How often will you wash? What method? What products? Deciding either 1x week or 2x week. Prepoo and then cowash with wen. Alternate DCs and PTs. Hard PT with Aphogee 2 Step every 8 weeks (after my braids take down)
What will you use for your hard protein treatment? and how often? See above
What else might you add to reach your goals?
Vitamins will update which later. And hair growth aids (sulfur mix, red pimento oil)

*My goals are APL Dec '13 and BSL by the end of the challenge although that's stretching it.

Who's with me? You can join at any time.
I have some questions about wigs (this is my 1st time) I will ask in another post.

Yes I know its bad but this one week I have let my self off and have used heat on my hair quite a bit. The problem is I need to moisturise my hair but I don't like using moisturisers which I cant use with heat because it leads to bubble hair. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I'm finding myself doing the inevitable. I'm hiding behind my weave. Yes, I love my brown skin. Yes, I like my big lips and nose. But sweet baby Jesus, I can't stand my hair! Maybe I should put it this way, I can't stand the LENGTH of my hair. (Since I wear kinky curly weaves).

I've been at this "hair journey" for a while now. Been natural for two years and transitioned for a year and a half before that with weaves. I've always had problems with my nape (not so much anymore thanks to jbco). Out of my frustration, I've turned to weaves because I think that I look better with longer hair. I would use the excuse that it's only a protective style, I love my hair. Now that I took out my last weave a couple of days ago, I'm realizing that I'm lying! I take less pictures without a weave and I'm "less seen" because I don't have the same amount of confidence.

I didn't always feel this way about my hair. In the beginning when I first saw my curl pattern I had so much hope. I envisioned big fros and blocking students from seeing the professor in lecture and people asking me what I do to grow it. All of that honeymoon ish went out of the window when months passed and money was being spent trying to figure out what my hair likes. So that's when I went back to how I transitioned in the first place, weaves. Then I just figured, "hey, if my hair wants to act like this, I'll just keep wearing weaves". Next thing I know, I'm only seeing my real hair a couple of weeks at a time because now I just think I look better in weaves. When I look at my hair, I want to feel like I'm doing something right, but sometimes all I see is wrong.

Now that I realize this is how I feel about myself. I'm not getting another weave until next week (I know that's short, baby steps people. baby steps:lol:) and right now, I'm trying to fall in love with my hair again. When I took out my last weave a couple of days ago, I had way less breaking than usual and I feel good about that. It was mostly shedding. I did my wash routine and rod set my hair.

My question to you is, how did you fall in love with your hair? Did you ever fall out of love with your hair? If so, how did you fall back in love with your hair? If not, I think you should try. :)

I'd like to have a biblical discussion on intercessory prayer and hope that you ladies will chime in:).

If God gives us 'free will', how are you praying for people that you know that are lost, un-saved, or have back-slide?

Does a person have to acknowledge their sin and need for God before God intervenes on their behalf?

I pondered on James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

I thought it was quite interesting that this verse states key words that are powerful in the spiritual realm "confession", "prayer", "healed", "effectual", "fervent", "righteous", "availed", "much".

How do you ladies connect and interpret this verse in regards to intercessory prayer?
