I big chopped after a fifteen month transition on Thanksgiving Day 2006. I colored my hair a rich brown during my second year, and I spent the next two years trimming it away. The color made my hair feel weird, and I wasn't retaining moisture or length, very well. I decided to actively grow my hair out in March 2011. I have very fine, medium-density, 4a hair.

Pre-poo with a warm oil. Finger detangle and braid in sections. Deep condition on dry hair under steamer or hooded dryer once a week or every two weeks, depending on style. OPERATION EDGES: Update #2

It has been four full months since the beginning of this 'operation', and I have been consistent with oiling and massaging my edges with sulfur and castor oils. Bottomline - I believe that I am seeing a difference!

My baby hair seems to come further down my forehead, with new tiny sprouts every week. My left side is filling in rather nicely, but there is a quarter - sized section on my right that is more stubborn. Luckily, the right hair line has filled in, , but the scalp...

In the past I have used Vatika oil with pleasurable results; now, I would like to make my own version of an ayurvedic health and growth oil to use a pre-poo in my regimen.

Depending on the ease of use and any results I find, I will enhance my sulfur oil recipes by adding more herbs that are reported to encourage growth and reduce shedding.

The herbs I am most interested in using are:

Amla
Bhringeraj (or Maka Mahabhringera)
Brahmi (or Gotu Kola)*
Shikaki*
