Continuing hair journey-Mizani Butter Blends relaxer review
Posted 08-23-2008 at 06:42 AM by nomadpixi
Ok, since my journals have disappeared, I am updating myself with today's relaxer application with my newly arrived Mizani Butter Blends relaxer that I got from ebay seller shamika.
Materials
Mizani Normal strength Butter Blends Relaxer
Revlon applicator brush (wider and with shorter bristles
Petroleum Jelly
Silk Amino Acid Liquid
Terax Crema Conditioner
Cheapie Neutralizing shampoo
Hello Hydration conditioner
Relaxed and Natural Conditioner
Stopwatch
Procedure
1. So, last night I figured I'd base up my scalp, since I had a really dry scalp and had been scratching more than I preferred during the day. I did a bit of the ends and my scalp in petroleum jelly then went to bed.
2. Around 3pm, I set up and started sectioning my hair and applying a bit more vaseline to my scalp parts that were itchiest that day and also sprayed my exposed ends with silk amino acid for extra protection
3.I began applying the relaxer to the back right section, then clockwise to the front. I took too much time on the first section, so I sped up in the front too much and didn't get some parts well this time.
4. Despite that and the snafu I had with my eye, I finished processing and began a very small amount of smoothing. It's heavy product, so getting it processed was actually easier. I added more to sections that needed it in the front, and then decided to rinse at about 20 minutes of full time.
5. I only had Terax as a good conditioner so I used that for the after relaxer conditioner, and this worked reasonably well, though I may switch next time.
6. I rinsed and used a cheap brand of neutralizing shampoo and left it in for about 4 minutes, smoothing the hair in the front that didn't get properly relaxed like the rest of the hair.
7. I rinsed this, shampooed again and added more Terax to the ends and Relaxed and Natural Conditioner for my long, steeped conditioning session. I left this on for about 2 hours, then rinsed in the shower, combing with my Denman. The hair was still thick but just my favorite amount of straight - not bone straight, but quite straight: a perfect 80%.
8.Blowdried my hair with my Remington Tourmaline/Ceramic dryer then a light run through with my Hot Tools Ceramic iron.
Results
Salon perfect, shiny, thick, swingy hair!!! I'm friggin in love!!!! Go Butter Blends!!! And yay Me! I'm a self relaxing legend (in my own mind)!
Conclusions
1. I need to apply much faster and start my smoothing in the front next time, but otherwise, this stuff is great!
2. I need to try to afford a really good, internationally recommended (Australian electronic cord) Ceramic Iron. If I move, I won't have access to a transformer and want to just have the ability to plug in and go.
3. Mega Tek is the TRUTH! I got my hair cut to just at my collarbone in back and in the 2 weeks I had to wait for my relaxer and used MT (not even every day) I got at least 1/2 inch of growth, even in the front, and in some places in the front almost an inch! This stuff prevents me from regretting any haircut for long, since I can just grow it out in about 3 months!
4. Keeping my ends covered most of the month really helps too. I have a spray I used for that month (aloe vera gel, silk amino acid, glycerine, honeyquat, water) and this is good for regular moisturizing in this dry *** climate.
5. I seal my ends in with the Red palm cream that I still have left over. This is great for retaining moisture but makes my hair heavy. I use this toward the end of the week when I put my hair up.
6. Henna and Indigo treatments are the TRUTH. I mix half Henna, half henna wax conditioner, with red palm oil and hot water and apply. If I have to go out that day, I wrap it up with a plastic bag and throw on a wig and go on my way. Then I rinse and finish off with 1 hour of indigo powder mixed with hot water and 1 teaspoon of sea salt. This creates the black color I'm after. My hair is now fine, flowy but has a nice weight to it. I'm finally in love with my hair!!!

Thanks for the review, I'd like to try butter blends too but I am in the UK and the shipping is quite high for this particular product. Hoping to get it when I am next in the states.Posted 08-24-2008 at 05:41 AM by *KP*
