Congratulations to July 2012 Feature of the Month - Smiling Elephant
(1) What is your hair care regimen?
I mostly rock Wash n Go's everyday...i redo them every 3 days.
-Co wash with V05 or Suave Naturals conditioners every 3 days (Mondays and Wednesdays)...on co wash days I detangle with just my shower comb in 4 sections.
-I usually either use my co-wash conditioner as a leave in or use an actual leave-in(Oyin Hair Dew) or a moisturizer as an actual leave-in (LUSH R&B), i go heavy on it!
-Right now i am using Beyond The Zone's Noodle Head curl cream as my styler...i also like to use EcoStyler Argan Oil gel, but i use that when its hot and humid..like it's getting now! I put my styler on top of my leave in, rake it through soaking wet hair and give it a little shake to separate curls. WAMBO! I'm good for 3 days!
-I shampoo and deep condition every weekend from anywhere between 5-20 minutes...if i REALLY need moisture...i'll go for an hour. I use things like AO HSR, AO Island Naturals, I like different Dominican conditioners, Oyin Honey Hemp is just AMAZING if you leave it on for 15 minutes! I also use my Denman brush to "de-shed" my hair on my DC days. I do it in 4-6 sections, finger comb, then use my widetooth comb and then my Denman.
-I usually wear a WnG puff, and sometimes i'll tighten my head band..rap it around my curls and it becomes a curly bun
-I trim every 6 months to a year and i plan on only using heat 2-3 times a year...i love my hair more when it's curly than when it's straight.
-I apply JBCO to my scalp every once in a while
(2) Do you take any supplements? If so, what are they?
-Yeah...i don't really take em for hair though...i take them for other health reasons...i take Omega 3,6,9 supps and i take gummy multivitamins...i'm not super consistent though!
(3) Currently, how long is your hair and what is your hair type?
My hair is currently almost BSB (so i guess APL), I have 3 different curl patterns on my head...from front to back it's 3b/3c/4a craziest thing!
(4) What are the things that you feel have helped you the most in achieving and maintaining your hair length
Well...i have been here on LHCF for 4 years. I have been both, relaxed and natural, i did an 8 month transition, i have had very long hair to very short hair...i've done almost everything to my hair lol!! I have to say that everything i have learned here from you guys is what helped me. I remember discovering that my hair thrives on co-washing when i was relaxed...and i have stuck with it to this day! My hair LOVES water and moisture! Now that i am natural, my hair loves the same concept of haircare even more! Moisture, moisture, moisture!!
Also now that i am natural...i have found that i HAVE to thoroughly rid my hair of shed hairs every single week..this plus the moisture, plus the mid-week detangling is very important to keep away SSK's.
I also do not use a lot of heat.
Also...it's important to be PATIENT. I am the most impatient person in thee world! But my hair journey has taught me to be patient about not just getting my hair to grow..but other things in life. If your hair is not doing what you want or it just looks crazy...don't cut it! Put it away and focus on something else..when you return, you will see progress...hair is like a plant...it will always grow as long as you water it and feed it. One day you will see it blossom into the beautiful majestic creation you waited so long for it to be...and you will appreciate it bc of how long it took you to get there. That goes for hair...and anything in life.
Just keep swimming!
