(1) What is your hair care regimen?
After being relaxed bone straight for several years and also being natural I have decided on the happy medium of texlaxed.
My regimen consists of the following:
-My relaxer of choice is Silk Elements Lye Relaxer Mild.
-I relax in 4 sections for 7 minutes and after rinsing but before neutralizing I do a mild protein treatment.
-I stretch between 12-15 weeks.
-Shampoo/DC 1x a week
-I deep condition with steam once a month.
-I co-wash once a week and bun my hair if I’m not wearing a rollerset.
-I use protein as needed either Aphogee 2 minute or Duo Tex
-I moisturize with KBB hair milk and seal with oil daily unless I’m wearing my hair straight.
-I try to limit the amount of direct heat I use on my hair and wear styles that protect my ends.
*New things that I have recently added is using NJoy’s growth oil and baggying nightly.
(2) Do you take any supplements? If so, what are they?
- 2 Gummy Multi-vitamins every day
- GNC Hair skin and nails 2/day
- I eat a lot of dark green veggies, exercise 3 times a week, and drink mostly water
- I eat foods high in protein like greek yogurt, salmon and tuna.
(3) Currently, how long is your hair and what is your hair type?
My hair is around that shoulder length/collar bone area in the front and a bit longer in the back. I think its called SLAP length between Shoulder length and APL. I am a type 4b/4a very dense with a mixture of fine and medium strands.
(4) What are the things that you feel have helped you the most in achieving and maintaining your hair length?
LHCF ladies of course! I have learned a wealth of knowledge from everyone here.
I think it’s important to remember that Hair is hair, whether you are relaxed, natural, texlaxed, or whatever, there are things that don’t change. Things like keeping a moisture/protein balance, trimming, washing, not overdoing it with heat, and protecting your ends are key. You have to treat your hair like fine silk.
Once you have what works be consistent. Also take pictures. You may think that you aren’t progressing but a picture speaks for itself.
