I first heard about menstrual cups on this forum and I was like no way is that for me. Well I've learned a lot about them and plan on doing more research because i'm really interested in trying them. I got the courage to go from pads to tampons only a few years ago and I never went back to pads so now it's time for me to move up again.

Menstrual cups sound better for the body than tampons and I like the fact that they will save a lot of money and that they only have to be changed approx. twice a day.

Please share any menstrual cup experiences as well as recommendations....I'm leaning towards the Diva but if there's something better I'll check it out.

Also, what do you guys do when you have to empty in a public restroom and how do you sanitize this?

I recently tried the Instead disposable cup. I didn't like the messiness of it all. I'm sure with practice it wouldn't be so bad, but I wasn't feeling it at all. Another thing that I noticed was the odor, I guess it's airtight and because of that, there is no freshness circulating up there. I don't like bodily odor smells, especially not coming from down there. You can keep the instead in for up to 12 hours. I couldn't wait that long and even after around 9 hours, it wasn't nearly full, BUT it all spilled as I removed it and it smelled bad, like never before.

Thankfully I have a good friend who uses Instead so she just let me have one of hers to try. Try a disposable one in advance of taking the big plung on the Diva. You may like it, but it wasn't for me.

I really like the diva cup and have been using it for 4 years now. You can keep it in up to twelve hours and then you have to remove it and wash it out. There are several ways to clean it. You can wash it with soap and water or you can clean it with vinegar. You should also boil it in water periodically. If I have to remove it in a restroom I take it out and wrap it up in a paper towel, but the times that I've had to do that have been few and far between.

I have used Instead in the past, and don't like it. To me it's easier for the blood to spill with the Instead cup vs. the Diva cup. My sister recently switched from pads to the Diva cup and didn't take her long at all to learn how to use it.

I use the DC and I have never had a messy experience with it at all. I always use back up just in case I didnt put it in right. I also use cloth pads too.

To avoid changing it in public, empty it right before you leave the house, that way it will be hours and hours before you need to empty it again and you can do it at home.

I have used the Instead cups and don't find them all that inconvenient. I haven't experienced leakage and my flow is heavier than average. I've also not noticed any odors, but that could be because I prefer no hair in my nether region.

i tried the instead cups and didn't like them at all. i don't think it would be beneficial to try them before you move on to the diva because they are totally different. i use the dc and i love it. it's pretty much the greatest thing since sliced bread. the first few times i had some difficulty inserting it but it's been smooth sailing since then.

Yea I can tell just by looking that instead is totally different and not even an equal comparison. Everyone says they love this diva cup....I'm excited! I've heard some excellent reviews.

So once the cup is in properly you can't feel it at all?

I'm having trouble imagining something that looks so big and not being able to feel it inside.

I've used DC for several months now, and I love it! Prior to getting married three months ago, I was a virgin, and I didn't have any problems with it. You fold it in a way where it's not so big when you insert it. I use the smallest one and haven't had any problems. You really don't feel it. I was thinking about it yesterday, I've saved so much money with the Diva Cup! Just try it. It may take a few months to get the hang of it, but you'll love it.

Not at all, I didn't like instead either. I made such a mess with instead when I tried it years ago. I love the diva cup. As long as its in properly, there's no mess. If you feel it, its not in properly.
