Congratulations to March 2011 Feature of the Month - Ms Lala
(1) What is your hair care regimen?
I like to keep my regimen simple. I shampoo every 2 weeks and deep condition. If I need to wash in between the 2 weeks I rinse my hair but I don't use shampoo. I typically deep condition w/a moisturizing conditioner under a plastic cap w/out heat. I often leave some of that conditioner in my hair as a leave-in. When I do special treatments sometimes I do use heat and I do not leave these in my hair (i.e. Aphogee etc..). I let my hair air dry in braids and then I style. Occasionally I let my hair air dry to about 70-80% then blow dry. I keep my hair stretched out all times, meaning
I never let it shrink all the way up.
(2) Do you take any supplements? If so, what are they?
I just take a regular multi-vitamin and try to eat properly. I notice a difference in my hair growth when I am eating right and exercising. I do take protein powder supplements when I am exercising w/weights regularly.
(3) Currently, how long is your hair and what is your hair type?
WL when stretched.I would say my hair is type 4, I think it's a 4ab mix. I describe it as afro-textured and cottony.
(4) What are the things that you feel have helped you the most in achieving and maintaining your hair length.
1) Not over complicating my regimen with too many things. Simple has worked best for me.
2) Doing what works best for my hair and not trying to get my hair to look like the hair of other people. I work with my hair based on it's texture, length, and density.
3) Focusing on having healthy hair instead of length. As I focused on health, the length seemed to follow.
4) Wearing "stretched' styles.
5) I keep my hair properly moisturized. Deep conditioning regularly and cutting back on heat use has played a role in this. I am not anti-heat but large amounts of heat do not work on everyone's hair. I can use some heat if I use it properly and sparingly. I actually like to use heat to straighten my hair before a trim.
6) Watching the ladies on here reach long lengths has also been inspirational and they have been very supportive.
