Sea salt for asthma?
Posted 05-16-2010 at 10:21 PM by Sharpened
Due to his multiple food allergies and eczema, we were not surprised when our younger child had his first asthma attack at age 2. What was strange is that during the next 18 months, he rarely had to use a preventative or albuterol. For some reason, he required his OJ to be mixed with his watered-down white grape juice in his straw sippy cup and drank constantly throughout the day. He did not like OJ straight back then and I figured keeping hydrated was a key to preventing attacks.
The last two months of 2009 saw us in the ER three times, hospitalized twice, because the steroids were not working. Both times he received an intravenous solution of magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt), the same thing used to stop premature labor. His allergies have been under control for years, but the preventative medicines do not work during temperature swings. I found it odd that an electrolyte could help. DH eats bananas, fresh or dehydrated, for charley horses caused by a lack of potassium. Could an electrolyte deficiency be the cause?
First experiment:
Second experiment:
I definitely want a few Himalayan salt lamps. My SIL suggested filling a lidded sandbox with sea salt and letting him play in it when I mentioned The Salt Chalet. From my research, fulvic acid may be an element missing from our diets due to commercial farm technique. Now to find a safe source to test on DH.

I was meaning to post my experiences with Salitair. It helped when I was sick and coughing a lot. It also helped when Texas had a record high allergy season.
I'm in Europe now so Google keeps matching sites on this side of the planet but I got mine from my local co-op in Texas.

It says it helps with asthma too. The intent is to mimic the conditions in natural salt caves and mines.Posted 05-17-2010 at 06:30 AM by sareca

Thanks. This poor child is allergic to everything except beef, pork, turkey, corn, rice, some fruits and vegetables. We can only hope and pray he grows out of most of them.Quote:coconut water also naturally has electrolytes....i like the brands one or vita coco. cut out the wheat and dairy too, they make tons of mucus and that makes for more issues. i wish you continued luck with the sea salt...sounds like its winner. keep us posted periodically on the long term benefits/effects on your baby
