So I went on my second interview today with the district manager.
Here is what happened,

Immediately when I get in he is SERIOUS and HARDCORE.
(like I am going to just smash you)
AND HE DID!

One question was
What would be another thing you do well?
Me: Selling
Him: what makes you a great seller?
Me: Good listening skills, belief in the product I am selling, executing the sale.
Him: What else?
Me: Is there more?
Him: Think about it? what makes you a great seller?
What makes you able to train others?
Me: What?
Him: I really need you to learn why you do this, why you are in retail and what drives you.
Me: (WTF face)
Him: We are really looking for someone with a stronger set of skills and I do not want to waste your time. So I am done asking you questions.
Me: Okay (smile)
Him: Thank you it was nice meeting you.
Me: Walk out like what the hell is goin on here.
I was a store manager before and this is a asst. position.
OKAY!
so I realized that this was not MY JOB, and I am not ready to go back to work.
But I was really bummed out. I was not prepared and he put me on the spot.

I am sorry, sounds like he had his mind made up before the questions, sounds as if he may have been biased for whatever reasons, probably unfair ones.

I hope you don't feel too badly over this.

Hmmm, I don't think he went to hard on you. In an interview you have to be prepared for any and everything. You have to be able to think quickly on your feet and respond accordingly. Maybe the next time you go on an interview you can practice with a friend beforehand.

If a person is asking what else, then push harder. Give more. "Good listening skills, belief in the product I am selling, executing the sale"...IMO, these make any person a seller. But what makes an INDIVIDUAL a GREAT SELLER?

His point may have been for you to say precisely why you're good enough. Are you passionate? Are you sure of yourself and your skill? Things of that nature. Yeah he was being a Doberman, lol, but can you blame the guy? Highly competitive positions commonly require aggression.

I know you'll find the perfect job you've been looking for, though, and hopefully when THAT interview comes, you'll be better prepared to respond with something other than 'what' and the 'wtf face.'

You have some interviewers who think if a person can get through a bully interview then that who they want.He could very bias to women. He was very aggressive for no reason.Almost not professional.I know that some have said you could have done this or that better which is true.In every interview I do I try to learn from it.I have had some interviews that I thought I sucked and then it called back for a face to face..you will be fine. And look at it as a blessing because you wouldnt want to work for a jerk..

Wow, it did sound like his mind was made up before he saw you. Sorry you had to go through that, the guy really sounded like a jerk.

But for the future, I think someone good in sales does have something extra, it's the ability to put someone at ease and make them comfortable enough to make the sale. I've watched good salesmen sell my husbands artwork. Inevitably, they're attractive, professional, naturally charismatic people. There's always something about them that's interesting, intriguing. They're able to relate to a wide spectrum of people. They make the act of writing a check out somehow both fun and being a part of something greater. You probably have all that, being in sales already, but that's how it looks to me, someone that couldn't sell water in a desert.

I think he probably wanted to hear a more "customer-focused" answer. For example, "I have an innate ability to empathize with others. This is vital because determining the customer's need is the focal point of sales. As a (the company's name) sales rep, I can assure you that I will strengthen the rapport with our clients, and therefore expand our customer base."

He seemed to want you to elaborate more. ( not necessarily by listing traits, but in a conversational fashion) Since sales is "people-focused", he may have wanted to test your people skills and see if you would become irritated easily.

    * Use every question as an opportunity to sell yourself and try not to become intimidated by the interviewer's demeanor.

Best wishes on your job search in the future.

Sorry that this happened to you.

I've found that it helps a lot of the time to have example stories in your mental pocket, of things to pair with a quality that you give. Not just what you are, but what you've done to that end, a concrete example of what you've done instead of the buzz words that most people who go in for interviews memorize before they go in.

Just remember that for every door that closes another one opens.

I've read this over and over, and while he may have been harsh, though I don't necessarily read that from the text as written, I see two main problems.
    (1) You answered a question with a question that, as written, appears to dismiss the validity of his question. I'm speaking of the "is there more" response?
    (2) Not appearing to be fully prepared. You have to think from their perspective: out of all of the candidates I'm going to see, what makes this person special? Why should I hire her over however many other candidates come to me?

Remember this interview and have your answer ready in full. I've had interviewers curse at me during the interview, to show how the client may react to me. And since it's happened since I became an attorney, I know that it was representative of reality. I think you should do a lot of mock interviews with friends, and have them act in different ways: nice, bored, aggressive, all of them, so that you're able to deal with all the situations that you may encounter. Best of luck to you!
