Hey all!

Watching 500 Days of Summer for the 100th time has made me more interested in finding vintage/feminine looks. I hate Zooey D. (for her aloofness) but I love her style. I'm interested in 30-60s styles. I've come across a few black pinups lately too and I love their styles.

Does anyone have any links to sites for fashionable, vintage ladies (women of color especially)?

Here's what little I have now:
Angelique Noir: http://thepinupnoire.tumblr.com/

I just found Ms. Peaches on tumblr:

I just started my own vintage fashion tumblr:

I adore vintage style. My favorite era is Art Deco ( 20s/30s ), but I love retro inspired looks from any era. In my personal style I try to blend the flapper/screen siren look with modern fashion. Thanks for starting this thread.

Her name is Erin, she used to work on BGLH stuff. She does more rockabilly/alt stuff, but i think her blog is neat and she has a unique sense of style.

I'd love to see some of what you own and how you put it together...if you don't mind sharing.

Thanks Regalady! I'm loving her magazine covers. I wish I could reblog some of her posts. Her oxfords are sooooooo cute.

I need some just like hers on the 2nd page. :look:

Thanks Letta, I added those two!

I'm getting so carried away with tumblr. I have 3 blogs now and it hard to juggle them all with only 1 dashboard.

Tagging a few ladies for their input.

RossBoss - I think the only thing we might agree on 100% is fashion. I remember you posting that you like vintage inspired looks... I think it was you. Do you mind sharing where you get your inspiration? TIA

barbiesocialite - tagging you for that siggie!

There's someone else I'm thinking of, but I can't remember her screen name.

ETA: Found it! SeeLexus -Do you have anything you can share?

If you haven't checked out her hair album on here, do it. :yep: Amazing style!

I am still in the process of fine tuning the look and learning more. But when I get a chance I can post some pics.

That Deco era comes across one note to most because I think it is the least duplicated and there is not as much of a subculture to support it and vintage pieces to study are rare. Most people are used to the kind of cheesy "flapper" costume look consisting of long beads and a fringed dress, but there is so much more. At the moment the flapper look is trendy and there is a small counterculture of enthusiasts but you never see as much Deco representation as you do for the 40s/50s era. Rockabilly and Burlesque have a huge following. Deco is just becoming more talked about and recognized. There was a big revival in the 60s/70s and then it became almost too antiquated for people to relate to. Also people don't realize Deco has many different looks within the look. Modernism, Tribalism, Neo-Grecian, Egyptian, Orientalism, Sporting are all subcategories within the style.

Sorry for the essay haha. I'm pretty passionate about fashion history.

What I know about styles and eras comes mostly from an art & architecture class i took in college and my love of Antiques Roadshow. I think silk chiffon, slip like dresses with lots of jewelry when I think Art Deco. The Parisian styles I really like and Neo-Grecian too. I'd have to learn more about the other categories with Art Deco...

I get what you're saying about the various revivals. I guess there isn't too much variety amongst each of the other styles either. The cuts of clothing stays the same for the most part.

The 20-30s style-wise are interesting to me... Women could finally wear pants! I think with the Great Gatsby remake coming out soon, we'll see a little more of that culture everyday.

Subbing...I think I may get into this post baby.

I went thrifting for some new stuff. I realize I really need a slip. I grew watching my mom wear them with everything and I always thought they were for older women. welp. Time to grow up and get some grown woman undergarments.

I'll post a few outfits next week. I purchased mostly sweaters this time around.
