How to by classic style clothes/shoes designer or otherwise! *Sticky*

Hey you all. I was thinking, since many of us on here obviously love fashion, why not try to buy clothes that will last us for a long time if we are spending a significant amount of money on the piece. For instance, to me, $150 on a dress jacket that can be paired with jeans is a significant amount of money, even if it is on sale in the Bloomingdale's catalog!:lachen:


I'm not speaking of a jacket that can be found at Target for $20 but the clothes that we actually spend money on only to have it be out of style two years later. That is just not acceptable to me, especially knowing that the only reason stars can get away with wearing all these designer clothes is because they actually send them to the stars to wear. The average working professional woman doesn't have Cavalli or Wang send over some clothes or dresses nor would our budget (not all) support buying 40 dif. pair of designer shoes per month.

So in an effort to get the best out of our clothing, I wanted to make a thread dedicated to classic pieces. Shoes you can wear 5 years from now and not have to worry about the seams coming apart.

When I say Classic, I mean if you take a model wearing a classic-style piece, you can put her in a clothing ad from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, etc and she will fit in perfectly.

Some classic pieces are: trench coats (depending on the style), polo styled tops, straight leg khakis, etc.

Note: If you can actually find a classic style clothing or shoe piece on sale, that is even better. I always like to see Bloomingdale's Classic summer pieces on sale.:grin:

I splurged on two classic style business suits at Ann Taylor during their 129 dollar suit sale at the outlet. If I can find pictures of them I most certainly will post. Ann Taylor is the epitome of classic pieces.

I buy alot of my work clothes from Ann aylor. Their suit seperates are really nice. I missed that outlet sale. I need to stop by the outlet more often.

I just do the premium outlets....leesburg in Va, woodbury in nyc, the one n NC (not sure of the name).....b/c you get all the high-end labels (Burberry, Ann Taylor, Off Saks, Kenneth Cole, BCBG, Coach) w/o having to pay the high price tag......Classic pieces are always going to be sold there b/c .....they're classic...so there's never any worry that i wont find what i need

Where can you buy classic style shoes like the ones sold at Bergdorf Goodman? Like if a pair of shoes cost $500 and I can get them for $250. That would be a real deal. Of course I have a few more years till I can think like this. Just getting a head start.:grin:

DSW tend to have great high end aisles. There is usually only one aisle that has the high end shoes, and it's towards the back and right hand side of the store. There you can get really classic shoes that never go out of style and are great brands. I have had great luck in Columbus...my hometown and a distribution center for DSW...not so much luck in Atlanta...you would think otherwise, because Atlanta is a bigger city...but nah. :wallbash:
