Hey ladies! I know that there are a few of us out there who have been trying to gain weight. I thought that perhaps we could use this thread to share what we have been doing to achieve our goals.
This can be like our little support group....... http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Yeah im definetely a part of this club! I cannot gain weight no matter what, people tell me that I'm crazy for wanting to put on pounds, but I dont care. I consider myself a heavy eater, but nothing is happening. I think i may start going to the gym and working on strength and building a few muscles so i can gain more mass.
At one time i was drinking nutrament everyday with 2 meals and it put on a few lbs, but nothing major. Plus nutrament is expensive $1.80.

At least you're a heavy eater. I defintiely think that you should you start strength training. That's what i Plan on doing. As a matter of fact, I was just about to change it ot something more comfy so that i could attempt to do this workout in the latest Fitness magazine.
Nutrament is expensive..I agree. Every once in a while they have them on sale at Pathmark for $1.50 but that's still expensive.
I think we should try to keep each other privy of any sales that we know of with Nutrament, Ensire, Boost, etcetera.
Believe it or not, I bought SlimFast yesterday. I checked out the ingredients and it didn't seem that different from Boost or Ensure. It even has more protein. I thought I could use it as an additional meal since SlimFast seems to be on sale more often than any of the abovementioned.
I bought the French Vanilla and its just okay.......I don't know but it was on sale for $5---6 cans. How could I pass up the opportunity to try that?

Me too. I could use a little extra weight. I came across an eleven year old girl who was my height (bad enough) and she weighed more than me, and she was actually a few pounds underweight! How embarassing! My sister was a stick until she met a man who cooked for her. He was a meat man. I am not a vegetarian but I don't eat a lot of meat. Is anyone here a vegetarian?

I was trying to gain some weight a few years ago, I was about 115lbs at 5ft2inchs. Always had been, then me and a friend of mine went to this doctor that usually sold pills to help people lose. He gave us an sricbe for some Periactin and he gave use a B-12 shot and some vitamins. He also suggesed that we drink Ensure Plus between even meal. i gained 15 lbs in about 2months. Now I'm at 135lbs and my weigh still moves around but I haven't got back to what I used to weigh. Just hope that it goes where you want it to http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I had to work on my abs, and still working at them http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I've heard of Periactin. What does the B-12 do for you? I know my mom used to try to make me take this syrup called Apetivit and from what I remember--it was full of B-Vitamins--not sure which ones though.
Yeah but Ensure is SOOOO expensive...but I'll get right on it--as soon as I can afford it.
SO are you happy now?
I used to want to weigh 120 pounds (like I did in HS). I'm 5'4. But I look at my mom who USED to look like me and wonder if I should just let nature take its course. Maybe I can just bulk up so I won't look so skinny......I don't know.

Daviine,
Girl, I remember you telling me you wanted to improve your nutrition, but I had no idea that you were also a member of this club. It's very agonizing, isn't it? Ergo, pain in the butt, girl!
My loss was due to the food poisoning and bad bout of flu I had. Remember that madness? Geeeeeee...but it has been a real struggle consciously shoveling in more meals. I eat all the time anyway, but eating for weight is like more choices and trying to find combos. It's been a very slow process.
I just ordered the Gary Null Meal Replacement. I read about it a while ago and have recommended it to others. Now, I am hoping that this will push me ahead. What happened with me was that I gained a few pounds...was very encouraged, then I lost half and am back to the weight before the loss. I would like to get to 130lbs, preferably 132 if that is possible. I am at 124-125 now and I am 5'10".
I wish that you and I could support each other with the weight training. A girl online started me on crunches for ab definition (my tummy was flat as a pancake and I wanted that really cool Janet Jackson look) and I do plenty of aerobic exercises, but the weight bearing exercises would be great. I have dumbbells, but that's it.
WIth the B-12, it is supposed to increase your appetite just like the other members of the B-complex family. I think for it to be really effective (the B-12 in particular) you need the shots from a doctor. I take B-12 during my PMS time and it's great for that but have not noticed any surge in appetite.
Much Love and Happy Easter,
Jade
P.S. Girrrrrrrl, what is up with your ends?

I'm happy w/ my current weight. As for the B-12 shot I was soooo greedy after getting it. I mean eating every 2-3hrs. Stopping getting hamburgers, ice cream, chips, whatever, I was closes too http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif. That had to stop I was spending alot of money doing that. Grocery bill went through the roof, and it's just me at home. I keep all the snacks http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. I know this isn't good but I'm greedy. But, I have slowed my roll since I've gained the weigh I wanted. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

DJD-----that's so good to hear! I have that here but I haven't really been drinking it. When I was pregnant, my sister used to make me some awesome smoothies/shakes with that stuff. I have the powder in French Vanilla. What flavor do you have?
I want to see a nutritionist but I am leery of pulling names out of directories. I think it would be very difficult to find a rec for a nutritionist (I don;t know many people who advertise that they're seeing a nutritionist ofr any reason)so I am probably going to hold off on that for a while.
Glad to see you here!!!!

I'm trying to drink a Boost everymorning. BOOST is EXPENSIVE, though. IMO it tates better than Ensure and any other meal supplement drink I've tasted! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif

Ms. Kenesha---I fell ya on that. taste is important otherwise you won't stick to the plan!!! And doesn't it seem like Boost NEVER goes on sale!!!
My mom once offered to pay for my Boost/Ensure if I sent her the receipts! I may have to take her up on her offer because I'm broke! But at first I didn't think it was very funny that she wanted the receipts first!!!! Hmmmph!

Hey Jade http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/kiss.gif
Yes--I am in much need of some weight and nutrition. And I know I sound like a broken record but I truly am beginning to feel that my diet is the source of my hair woes. Just imagine the toll its taking on my body. I think one of my problems is that I am not disciplined enough.
Yes I do remember the bout of food poisining. I am glad that you're okay now and I am sorry that it was such a setback in terms of yuor weight. I totally understand where you are coming from when you refer to the struggle to consciously get in those meals.
have you tasted the Gary Null Replacement yet? It sounds expensive. I'm going to have to see if I can my mommy to help me with this one. She'll be so thrilled. She really feels that my life is in danger. She used to call me every day to ask what I had eaten and sometimes I would have to lie to get her off of my back. I'm pretty certain that if I had a chef, I'd eat a lot more. Oh the things I would ask him/her to make!! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif Okay but back to reality.
I wear a size 0 and it is very difficult to find clothes, so this is also an incentive. If I could get to at least a 2, I guess I would be happy but I'm not sure how that would translate into actual pounds.
Of course, even if I could magically put on the weight today I wouldn't becasue I don't have any money for the new wardrobe I would require.....hmmmm...but I guess as long I was using magic..I could make myself rich too!!!! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have realized that in order for me to do the weight training, I need to join the gym. I do not have enough discipline or knowledge to do free weights. I think I am going to join the gym in my school before I graduate. It's only 1 month and a half but at least it will get me started. Then maybe I will be more dedicated.
I wish there was a video tape for us. A tape marketed for underweight people trying to tone up. Not sure if that makes sense but I just feel like we are so misunderstood and underrepresented.
I'm scared to do aerobic exercise although I'm sure my hair would flourish with all the extra circulation. I listen to my music and I try not to get aerobic but its hard----I hope to learn some strength training moves that I can do whie I listen to music so I won't feel so deprived.
Well, my son says its his turn to use the computer so TTFN...ta ta for now....

Hmm come to think of it I used to eat the above foods A LOT in HS and i was always 140lbs at 5'8... i was perfect IMO... maybe i should learn to cook (dont ask http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) and prepare a good ole carribean dinner for myself a few times a week.
Now i'm almost 5'9 and 129lbs http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif.. I was 120 not too long ago so i am gaining slowly but surely. I hope to be 135lbs in the summer and i'll stop trying to put on the pounds.
BTW Boost and nutrament are the best! Boost vanilla is better though, I'm thinking if i drink 1 boost daily, eat rice, beans and plantains 4x's weekly.. I'll be there but the late may/mid june!

Ms. jadu---you are SOOO right. I just don't have the time to cook rice and beans --at least not the way I've been taught.
The plaintains--I can do--especially sweet plantains. I'm on my way to the supermarket....Maybe I'll pick up a few plantains to eat for breakfast--or right before bed. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I mean the rice and beans doesn't really take THAT long but sometimes it just seems so long and complicated since I don;t make it as often as I used to. Since I'm on vacation, maybe I'll make it this week!
Thanks for the tip!
BTW--does anyone know what plantains are good for nutrient wise?

From reading this post topic, it made me reminiscience of my "underweight days". well i have to tell you this, love and adore your naturally thin body as long as you can. for the longest time throughout my 20's, I never weighed over 1281bs. My height is 5ft 81/2 inches. People picked at me, called me Whitney Houston, and I had low self-esteem. I used to drink those protein shakes and pile my plate with food with hopes of being " a thick sistah". Now I am 30 years old and I have a postpartum pouch belly and weigh 140 lbs. Not that I look too bad, but now I yearn for my slimmer body. I now look at old pictures of myself and my body and see that I was actually looked nice in my clothes.
Ladies in a nutshell, these are the typcial live events things which will typically make you gain weight.
1. age- the older you get the more your metabolism slows down.
2. marriage- when you start cooking and eating more at home versus running the streets and going out you will pack on some pounds.
3. babies- your body will never be the same again, especially if you have had a c-section.
I hope that this may be enlightening. Trust me, I was where you'll are now. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

levette, 140lbs 5'81/2???? You probably look great! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The problem with me is, I WAS 140lbs and lost 18 lbs... so this body weight is not normal for me.
I see what you're saying though.. i may be one of those people later on in life that carries a pic of me "when i was skinny" in my wallet.. I know some people who do that and its very annoying
